Thanks!! My original license (which is active) is from NJ, so I'm not worried about that. His job will transfer him to NJ if I get a job in NJ. So, in order to travel, the loop hole is that I need to get a job with an agency with an office in NJ. Hoping I explained it a bit better.

I'm an OR RN (circ and scrub) and looking into traveling. I am trying to find an agency that is based out of NJ. I know this sounds silly since traveling can take me anywhere but this is so that my husband can get his job transferred back to NJ where our family is (his job does "trailing spouse" which means if I get a job somewhere, they will transfer him). We just need to agency to be based out of NJ or a surrounding state (PA/NY). I'm having trouble finding one! Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I am a BSN-prepared RN with 4 years experience (2 med/surg, 2 OR). I'm looking into joining the military to be an OR nurse but I'm not sure which branch to join. I think it would be awesome to help take care of soldiers/vets/etc all while advancing my own knowledge. I already got some info from an AF recruiter. One of my main concerns is my student debt. I owe approximately 85k and it's just killing me. I want to have kids in the coming years and I'm so concerned about money. I will be married in Aug 2016 and will join after that. Any words of wisdom from nurses or OR nurses in the military? Thank you!

Thanks nycNurse2b! I don't know everything about orientation since I haven't started yet, but here's what I know: 1. First week entails HR, policies, intro to real nursing, pharm test, etc. 2. Second week you start on your unit. First day is shadowing only. Day 2 is your first day of having patients. 3. First few weeks are M-F day shift (no matter what you're hired as). 4. I've been told that after they see how comfortable you are, they switch you to 3 12-hr day shifts. 5. If you're hired as night shift, like me, you're then eventually put onto the night schedule so that you can get used to the hours and staff. I've been told orientation is approximately 8 weeks on med/surg. I did not specifically want Pulmonary, but I'm glad that it's where I will be starting out. My true passion is to work with infants. Which one? Earlier you stated the STC or Master Cardiology. Now it seems you're agreeing with moggsy regarding the Cardio III. By the way, I just looked at my other stethoscope from nursing school and realized that I already have the Classic II se, so I obviously won't be getting it again. Upgrade time!

I interviewed with the HR rep and then also with the nurse manager of the unit on the same day (basically two separate interviews). The interview with the nurse manager is the most important imo. I found out approximately two to three weeks later that I got the job, but I did keep in contact with the HR rep during that time to try to find out if I got the job or not.

I'll be starting my first nursing job on a pulmonary unit in a few weeks. Should I get the Littmann Classic II or Littmann Cardiology III? I've heard they're both great stethoscopes, though one naturally costs more than the other. Any opinions?

I personally know of two hospitals (Jersey Shore Medical and St Barnabas) that have 7-8 patients per nurse on ortho units.

How much are you making hourly at your LTC facility? What facility are you working at?

St. Barnabas in Livingston, NJ: Base pay is $32.11/hour + $3.00 night shift differential. Not sure about weekend differential. This is for a new graduate nurse with a BSN.

I graduated with my BSN in December and was recently offered a position at St. Barnabas!! Orientation starts June 18th. Anyone else starting orientation there on the same day? Also, has anyone gone through St. Barnabas' orientation recently? Any words of advice for a new graduate going onto a pulmonary unit? Thanks guys!!

I'm also a new graduate nurse and I kept receiving emails from an agency that places travel nurses. I finally called and they said that they normally require 18 months of experience.
