New RN with questions- Albuquerque, NM

U.S.A. New Mexico

Published

Hello RN's

My name is Alma and I passed my RN boards last thursday!!!! I dont have any experience in the hospital but I have already started applying for RN positions at hospitals in my city. Does anyone know if there is some kind of transitional program for new Grad nurses to gain experience? Do hospitals actually hire New RNs with no experience?

Help!

Alot of hospitals will offer a residency program however it really depends on each hospital. Most hospitals require at least 6 months experience before hire. You will just need to see their requirements you might need to look at long term facilities of they won't accept you in hospital as new grad.

OP, if you are really in Albuquerque, you can go to the yellow bar at the top of the page, choose "US," and then scroll down to "New Mexico," and be in touch with people who live there and know more about it than we do.

I'll be honest, I call them boards to people outside the RN world because it's easier than getting the blank stare and people know what it means, but you'd think one would have an idea about who represents on these boards based on the name?

I haven't taken the NCLEX yet (signed up though, YIKES) and am just now applying for jobs. Id idn't have time while actually in school

Boards/NCLEX does it really matter...

Congrats for passing. I've lived in New Mexico (ABQ) area all my life and until getting in the field had no clue about the hospitals and new hire policy.

Hospitals like Pres, Lovelace, and Christus up in Santa hire new grads, however you just have to get in at the right time and be persistent. I've heard new grad hiring comes in "waves" when staffing is needed.

Good luck and congrats OP. A legacy is made by what others carry on from what one has taught.

I agree, managers do seem to hire new grads in waves. A lot of managers actually prefer new grads, but they are limited as to the number they hire at one time. I started out as a new grad at UNM (from out of state!). Although competitive, many units over 3-6 months of orientation/training for a new grad. Like anywhere else, it's best to find some "connections"...

OP, I too call them boards sometimes and NCLEX other times. I hope you find the answers you are looking for. Of course we can all google a lot of answers. But then why would we ever talk to each other? Sending
