New RN with questions- Albuquerque, NM
Boards/NCLEX does it really matter... Congrats for passing. I've lived in New Mexico (ABQ) area all my life and until getting in the field had no clue about the hospitals and new hire policy. Hospitals like Pres, Lovelace, and Christus up in Santa hire new grads, however you just have to get in at the right time and be persistent. I've heard new grad hiring comes in "waves" when staffing is needed. Good luck and congrats OP. A legacy is made by what others carry on from what one has taught.

First day of nursing school! Anyone else?
My first day is in the 22nd and I am very excited. I'm somewhat nervous but I guess that's what comes with not knowing what the program is gonna be like. Even more so pre-reqs were a drag and seemed to take so long... And the whole admission process adds to the anxiety. Give you a little insight into my background. I was a Marine, been to Iraq twice but nursing has me just as nervous as my times in the Marine Corps... Good luck to you all.

Nursing schools in session!!
I start on the 22nd.... Picked my books up, wow thickest books I've ever owned. I spent about 4 hours entering my schedule into my calendar on my PC. I'm halfway through chapter 1 in fundamentals, hoping to get through chapter 4 before the semester starts

what did I get myself into.
Great topic and I'm sorry that you have had this experience. It is a shame, but my hat is off to you. I'm an "experienced nursing student" myself. I start my program in a week. Your post has given me valuable knowledge on what NOT to be like. I'm and EMT-Intermediate, but I DEFINITELY know that I need to learn to think and perform like a nurse. I will remember your topic and ensure that I help anyone who ASKS for help. Like many have said we are all equal as nursing students. Good luck.

When someone mocks you for being a nurse
Just gonna add to this but who cares what other people think. I'm a nursing student, but I know what I'll say. "I'm a nurse sucka... But ill always be a Marine!"

military service male nurse
Thanks for your service brother. I'm a veteran Marine and have been using the Post 911 GI bill. And yes everyone's advice is good, however be aware of the college you choose. I know I took about 24 credit hours at "military friendly" schools that give credit for service and none of those credits transferred to any CC, or university in my state. So make sure... Most nursing programs require A&P and the only 100% online A&P courses that I know of are at Clovis Community college in NM. If you have any questions about the GI bill feel free to ask. I have been a student since I got out in 2010.

SFCC or CNM?Accepted at both where do I go?
Hi... Thank you both for commenting on my topic. I know I didn't give a whole lot of information. I currently live in Rio Rancho (North near Beranalillo), and as far as commute I was thinking of riding the train. Well after a few weeks of long hard consideration I decided to go to SFCC. Orinally when I first applied to SFCC I told myself, if I get into CNM, CNM is my first choice, but after really researching SFCC I found that the schedule up there worked best for my and hopefully (fingers crossed) allows me to continue to work full time at my current job. I am an EMT-Intermediate and work 48 hours per week. I have worked out my work schedule with my boss and I will work Friday and Saturday. The schedule at SFCC is M-Thurs. Where as CNM's I think is Tues-Friday? Is that right? One of the most appealing aspects of my decision was the summers off at SFCC. I have a four year old son, and he has been in pre-K school for the last two years with summers off. I think I would benefit from the break and I would stay sane (hopefully) not having to push through 4 straight semesters of nursing school. As far as clinicals I would prefer an Albuquerque or Rio hospita but, I am fine with St. Vincent's. I am very familiar with the hospital because 70% of the PT's I transport to to that ER. Do you think I made the right choice? Do you think I will be able to still work full time? Any advice on what I can be doing right now? Sorry I couldn't PM whitescrubs, but I don't meet the site criteria as far as thread participation. Thanks again.
