New RN having hard time finding job!

Published

Im having a really hard time finding a job here in CT. I mean there is hardly any opening anywhere. Any advice? And,can a new RN get a job at a hospital? What do I put on my resume under work experience? Uh my head is exploding with questions. All hospital positions require experience :(. im open to work in any type of facility, hospital, nursing home, clinic, etc

I have already applied at like every nursing home. I guess it's time for MOVING! (:

See I've read a couple times that there isn't much for new grads in TX.

westieluv where in S.E Mi?????

I put out over 70 resumes in the past 2 weeks, and just got a call for an interview Monday. Granted, I have no idea how this interview will go, and most of the positions I checked on 3 days after applying to were already closed, the best advice is to keep your chin up! I am just an ADN, and was super down about every job posting saying 'NO NEW GRADS' and 'BSN PREFERRED' but you have to keep putting yourself out there!

Go for the travel agencies online. there are alot. try craigslist. Not all places require experience. all new employees goes thru an orientation and probation period. Nurses will assist and train new nurses. If you feel that the company and staff is uncomfortable, not friendly, not helpful.. during your training you have to speak up to the DON about it. quality assurance and feedback is essential to companies esp for new workers. try a doctors office or a small clinic first. good luck

From my personal experience and the writing on these blogs, you are not alone! It's hard finding that first nursing job, especially in the hospital. It would have been in the best interest to take a hospital scholarship before graduating (but no need of crying over spilled milk). Sometimes I wonder if I should have choosen a career that doesn't offer many entry level positions. Otherwise, you have to be frank, aggressive and competitive. There are nursing residency programs that come around semi and yearly for new grad rn (search for it on indeed.com) Call the hiring floor unit, not HR (once you land the interview). Network! Also, try nursing homes, clinics (flu clincs are opening for new grads around this time) etc. My first nursing job happened to fall in dialysis clinic. That was all I could get at the time. It pays well. The hours are misconscrewed, but I do realize I get more interview call backs when I started listing the experience on my resume. I'm a year in now...still trying to land that "standard hospital nursing job". Most importantly, be proud that no matter what, YOU'RE STILL A NURSE. Best wishes!:nurse:

Have you considered flu clinics? One in particular is still looking for RNs for their fall clinics. I can't identify them by name, but they advertise on Craigslist.

Mollen Immunization Clinics? I got that job for the time being because I can't find a job around here. Some experience is better than no experience right?
