Hey everybody! I am graduating in may and I have a position as an RN on the ortho/neuro floor. I am really excited and also curious if y'all have any advice for me!!Thanks,
Ash :)
Hello! I am an LPN and I worked on an ortho/neuro floor for a year. I really enjoyed it. There is a lot to learn and it's very interesting. At least I thought so. Good luck!
I actually start working on the floor next week. I did do a semester of clinicals on ortho and I loved it. Yes, there is lifting involved, but it is awesome to see people recover from ortho/neuro surgeries.I wouldn't think that it is more than other units. Its a good place to be for me because I didn't want to work on a "sick" floor. The experience is good too because we have post-op patients and they also have other issues as well. :)
Ortho is full of lifting. I've worked on an ortho floor now for four years and most of our patients are average size of about 230lbs. There are many joys of working ortho. The fact that the patients aren't "sick" is one of them, but I can't tell you how many wonderful conversations I've had in the middle of the night with patients just wanting to talk. I love orthopedics and wouldn't change. I hope that you enjoy as much as I do. :)
