New OASIS

Gotta say, now that I am used to it I actually LIKE the new OASIS better than the old one! It seems to cut out the superfluous crap and most of the questions are actually relevant to assessments anyway. There's also way less clicking on little tiny buttons and in our program the pages load faster.

Once I get my RN license, (ha, ha), I anticipate moving into a work role where I will need to learn how to deal with OASIS. Is there a way I can start getting my feet wet now? The ads I see for RNs usually specify "knowledge of OASIS", but I don't see how I would get that knowledge at this point.

Anticoagulationurse - I thought I was the only person that thought it was easier! I find it to be much more streamlined and concise, I can do the whole admission paperwork in about half the time as the old one. We are still on paper charting and all of the extra papers we were filling out are now incorporated into the oasis. Glad something in this job is getting easier!

I have a question. I am new to home health. I keep getting questioned about the date that I am putting on my assessments for transfers... I have been putting date of assessment of the date that I fill the paperwork out.. Then, in the other place I put the date of the transfer... It is M0090 that I keep getting questioned on. Can anybody clear this up for me?

Sounds like you are doing it right..M0090 should be the date you fill out the transfer - should be within 48 hrs of the transfer date or as soon as you find out. The date of tranfer is the day that the patient was admitted to the hospital/facility - be sure that it is the day of admittance - not ER or observation status. Not sure why you are getting questioned? What is the problem with it?

For some reason, I am constantly questioned.... I think part of the questioning is cuz the majority of the office people that are entering OASIS into computer systems are not NURSES...
