New ny nurse, few foreign experience, zero job

Published

i just recently passed NCLEX RN exam. i am a foreign BSN graduate from the philippines. I had 4 months experience (3 months pedia, 1 month OB) in the philippines + 5 months working as private home nurse/aid here in NY.

QUESTION: 1. do hospitals here consider my experience in the philippines?

2. should i consider including my experience in my private job in my resume?

3. WHERE CAN I FREAKIN LAND A JOB HERE IN NY! :(

Kabayan....a few of my batchmates have been also trying for over a year.....nothing....

1). Most US hospitals do not consider PH workplace as experience.

2). It will not hurt to include that in your resume.

3). Very tough everywhere.

You should know depending on when you graduated with your BSN, most hospitals will consider you as a valid new grad applicant if you graduated within one year of that grad month and year, NOT the month and year you pass the NCLEX.

Just know with the high unemployment rate of new nurses that are of US educated status, the hiring priority will now go to those with US degrees.

The demand for any PH nurses has dropped to "not needed" for many years to come, here's an article of that..CLICK:

While it's more possible to get hired into LTC, SNF, nursing homes, it's still tough, but not impossible.

If you're looking at the more the hospital-hospital jobs, those haven't been happening for 1-2 years, unless one knows someone from the inside and even those are no guarantees. I'm gathering this information from my PH previous batchmates. Good luck in your search and hope you find something soon.

did u get a job lately.. I just passed my NCLEX this July I dont know how am I gonna start my career Ill be back nyc this septemebr....

Hi katgo! i applied in a staffing agency and they were able to give me a per diem position in a nursing home/rehab facility. still looking for jobs in hospital though. got a few interviews to hospitals also but havent heard back from them yet.

what is the name of the staffing agency? which hospitals interviewed you for a position?

Hi I'm from NY I just passed Nclex RN. When did you graduate? I graduated 2007 and had an experience as a home health care nurse in the Philippines. That's also my concern. I hope I can find a job.

i graduated 2011, they don't really consider experience from the philippines. i'm still working as an RN in a rehab/LTC facility via agency. low pay but you get experience at least.

I was educated in the Philippines. Had 3 years experience in the ER there. Worked as an RN in the UK for 4 years in acute care. Now I have immigrated here (I live in WA) and I have been trying to land a job for 3 months now. I had a few interviews and tons(!) of online applications( even for a residency spot) to no avail. I didn't realize the job market for nurses here is this tight. Boohoo, I should've just stayed in England. Anyway, I am trying my luck in the long term care arena at the moment. Hope the situation improves soon. Good luck, guys!
