I'm a psychiatric nursing instructor (have been for 15 years) and wow, it doesn't seem like you've looked in your book very much. Every psych nursing text I've ever seen answers most of the questions you ask...they define things pretty well. Do you have to assess a patient and that's why you're asking?

Misha, don't you have a textbook for your course? I feel that what you're asking us to tell you is a whole lot of information you should be able to find on your own and really, most of it you should know by this point in the semester. I don't want to do your homework for you. I wish you luck and suggest you start some online searches, look in your textbook if you have one, and talk to your instructor if you're having trouble.

I agree. I'm all for helping someone, but that is a lot of information you are asking for. Why are you reading through this in the library? You should have a text book that goes over this stuff.

hi there

psychiatric course is new for me & to be honest ( i did not like it that muchly )

the reason is that i love med/surg , reading pathophysiology and answering calculation questions:nurse:

i am soo sorry that if i really bothering u nurses & promise i will gether all my 3 best friends & study to gether

because i love ( group work ) & if i face any complicated thing that either instructor or book didn't help , i'll come here

& thank youuuuuu both & sorry again

maybe you could use the textbook you have and try your best to figure out the answers with your classmates. If you are still really stuck - post your answers and I don't mind letting you know if you are on the right track?

I am wondering if part of the problem for you is understanding the vocabulary? Is English your first language? You might need to use a mental health glossary (google - there are lots, or in the back of your textbook) and once you have a better understanding of the words, it might be clearer what role they play in an assessment.

hi there:redpinkhe:heartbeat

okay here's what happened , after we gathered ( me & my friends ) solving the questions , we discovered how psychiatric department is easy & mostly depends on communication & non-verbal techno. (eye contact, body language ....)

i think i should post the answers in order to encourage myself & show how psychiatric is easy (not like how i thought:yawn:) & correct me if i wrong

apparent energy level :

if pt has lack of energy like depression or the opposite like adhd in childhood

general state of health :

what the state physiological ( v/s ,coughing ....)

or psychological ( mania , depressed .....)

chronological age of client in relation to physical appearance :

compare what age pt appears with his actual age

biological vs. chronological age

degree of productivity & spontaneity (language & community )

if pt think repeatedly before answering or answer just like that (i have this problem +-(

ability of abstract thinking :

internal planning for solve problems, apply previous knowledge to new situations, learn new skills......

preoccupation , obsession idea of reference

preoccupation : is when pt think so deeply about some matter while obsession : an idea, image, or impulse which is recognized by the patient as their own, but which is experienced as repetitivefor example a man who phone his wife just because he obsessed that she

may have come to harm feeling

judgment of client:

couldn't find the definition of it in my book all what i found is poor judgment is acute effect in alcohol but scientifically i think it means if something is wrong or right

perceptual ability :

is when the information (smell , sight , hear .taste & touch

received in impaired way

illusion:

when the perception in real world mixed with internal imagery to make false internal percep

hallucination:

reaction without any (brain order)

defense mechanism :

unfortunately my book hasn't so examples soooo i don't know

values & attitude:

values :when pt consider thing is positive or negative

attitude: if pt had situation in past and affected him

community stressors :

it depends on client but if pt don't want talk about what upset him what can i do:confused:

my book is (oxford handbook of psychiatry 2005 )

now i am really tired from posting but very happy that i understood:yeah:

Misha, you need to do more online searches as I don't think you really understand what these questions are about.

There are thousands of helpful websites, you can do a Google search. Can't you access your university's website search catalogues for help?

Also you must talk to your instructor if you are struggling with the material. We don't know what your course curriculum is, so the course coordinator should be the first point of contact.

Is English not your first language? If that is the case, perhaps you need someone to interpret some of the words for you.

And people think psych nursing is easy! That always makes me laugh on these boards.

ADD: also if you do answers in red or another fluoresecent colour, they are really hard to read.
