New Nurse Relocating: From NJ to Greenville, NC

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hello! I graduated June 2010 and started working in NY in August. I work in a vent unit in Bronx, NY and now considering to move to Greenville, NC. I went to PCMH last week for shadowing and it was a wonderful experience. The facility is great, but the salary is not so great. But I have to say I am comparing it to my salary in NY. It's a huge cut, but like what most people have said, cost of living is lower than NY/NJ. Anyway, I need some information on best area to live in Greenville, NC. I have two boys going to high school and I was wondering what school is best for them. I need as much information that I can gather regarding relocation to NC. Any information that you can give will be really appreciated. Thank you! :)

I live in Greenville and have been here for almost 9 years. I'm one of the ones that moved to Greenville to go to ECU and just never left!

As far as PCMH, I love it. Of course, you can fins lots of negative things that people will say about it, but I think you can find that anywhere. I am really unfamiliar with anything pertaining to the adult world, so I can't help you there!

Living in Greenville isn't at all bad. There are plenty of good schools. South Central is a pretty good HS in Winterville. Greenville is pretty much the "hub" town for Eastern NC. It isn't huge and it is DEFINITELY not a thriving metropolis, but that is seen as a benefit to many people! And, as you said, cost of living is MUCH lower than where you are coming from! The hourly pay rate at PCMH is pretty comparable to the rest of NC.

If you want the benefit of a larger city (as far as shopping, entertainment, restaurants, etc), Raleigh is about 1.5 hrs away. Not too bad!

Overall, I really enjoy living and working in Greenville! Good luck in your decision making and please let me know if I can help you out at all or can answer any questions!

Thanks for the info. We are going to move to Greenville in July. I have read so much posts from people about NC, and not all of them are good news. I don't want to doubt the decision that I have made. Now we're trying to decide where to live. There are several suggestions that I got: Winterville, Ayden or some areas of Greenville. My husband would like to live in the country side. He wants his space. All I care about is the school where my boys are gonna go. It's going to be a big adjustment for them, so I want to make sure they will like it there. As I think about relocating, there's so much to do. I hope I have enough time to prepare.

If you want space, go with Ayden!

Actually, I am checking out this property in Ayden. Just a little concerned about flooding, and it seems like it has way too much space for me. Do you know how bad flooding is in Ayden?

I'm really not too sure. I've only lived in Greenville and Winterville. But nothing catastrophic that I can remember!

Ayden, Winterville, Farmville, Pactolus are all nice small towns within commuting distance (20-30 minutes at the most) of PCMH

Turd Ferguson,

Got your message, but couldn't reply. but I can PM yet. Have not reached the requirement. But yes, working there starting July. When are you starting and what department? If you want, PM me your email add" then we can discuss more about it, only if u want. No pressure.

Those are great rural areas. A lot of people I work with live in Winterville. I think if you are looking for something with a smaller community that is still convenient to the "amenities" of Greenville, Winterville or Ayden are good places to be. I live in Winterville now and I have clocked it at 6 miles from my house to the hospital!
