New nurse looking for extra hours

Published

Hi, I am a new nurse and I am still in orientation until the end of March. I am trying to think of other nursing jobs I could pick up a few times a week on my days off to make extra cash. I am only trying to find a job in another area b/c I hear when you work too much overtime on your own floor you can get burnt out. Any suggestions?

I dont know? what kind of nursing interests you? I would suggest picking up some shifts at a nursing home? Are there hospitals willing to hire new grads for PRN work while they are in orientation at another facility? I would think they would want you to have a certain amount of experience before they would allow you to pick up shifts? If it was flu season I would suggest signing up to do that for a few hours on the weekend, but I am not sure since you are a new grad?

I do little jobs in addition to my regualr 3-12 hour shifts a week. My problem is that I get kindof bored at home at times.

I sub as a nurse in the school district I live in - I don't do it for the extra cash (money wise it sucks) but I do it for the experience - hoping to eventually get a school nurse job while my kids are young. I also do flu shots during the fall thru an agency. In the summer I take a week off and do summer camp nursing - I get a small stipend and my kids attend the camp. If I really am looking for the money I will do PRN work thru a pediatric home health agency.

Specializes in School Nursing.

Maybe a clinic or something like CareNow, I know they hire new grads and I've heard their training is pretty good.
