  1. I am possibly relocating to a new state and I have been a RN for one year on a IMC (Intermediate Care /step-down cricitcal care) unit. I was wondering if that is enough time to switch to the ED. I have always liked the ED and it was my last rotation in nursing school. I feel like I still have a lot to learn, so do I try and switch to the ED now since I will be relocating to a new state, or stick to an IMC floor? I already have my ACLS cert. Thanks!
  2. What program are you graduating from in Philly? I moved from Philly to Austin and I know another girl who did the same. We are all in the Versant program that is just about to end. The pay is a lot less compared to what you would make in Philly but it's not as expensive here since it's not a big city. What I am told is people want to work here so they don't have to pay as much. I can't complain b/c the weather is so much better and the people are really friendly.
  3. Hi, I am a new nurse and I am still in orientation until the end of March. I am trying to think of other nursing jobs I could pick up a few times a week on my days off to make extra cash. I am only trying to find a job in another area b/c I hear when you work too much overtime on your own floor you can get burnt out. Any suggestions?
  4. Hi, I know the first day of orientation we are supposed to wear business casual and they said to bring a sweater b/c it can get cold. I would love to be able to wear scrubs from then on, I will cross my fingers.
  5. I don't know what to tell you but I have only heard good things about Seton. Do you think you will regret the med/tele floor if you decide to take that and not do L and D? I might be wrong but I thought its hard to get a L & D position so if you have the opportunity and you know that is what you want then I would say go for it. However, if you want to be marketable in the future and you decide your not going to be an L & D nurse forever you might want to take the med/tele position. Good luck!
  6. By the way, they don't keep track of who signs up for weekends so you don't have to have a weekend clinical. They just say that to people in the beginning but I know they don't follow what they state as far as having to have at least one weekend clinical. I actually preferred the weekends but I know people who didn't have one weekend at all.
  7. You usually get the opportunity to chose 2-12's or 3-8s, however your not guaranteed your choice. However, if you have a good reason like kids, etc. sometimes they will take that into account. You have the opportunity to switch with people too.
  8. Do you find most people commute into downtown. I have been looking into the NW areas to live but I am not sure if I should commute. I will be working nights so I don't think I should hit traffic. I want somewhere that is affordable b/c I am a new grad and I have loans to pay off. However, I do want somewhere that is nice to live and I don't have to worry about my safety. Has anyone ever used one of those apartment finders agencies? Do you feel that they are helpful or will they hound you? Thanks!
  9. Hi I just accepted a position in Austin and will be working downtown. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to live? I am from out of state so I would appreciate any help. I am looking for a one or two bedroom place that will be afordable and safe to live. Thanks!
