  1. Thank you for all the replys. I do realize I take everything close to heart. With our patient ratio 1:8 and most of the time we have one aid on 30 some patients I feel HORRIBLE that I am not providing the proper care to my patients. I have had numerous family member in the hospital, and I always expected the best care for them...I have high standards for myself...because I am taking care of someones' mother, father, someone else special person...they too deserve best and proper care...but when we are understaffed what can you do about it. I will make an appointment with my primary doctor to get checked out...I honestly believe I developed IBS from nursing. I too have though about changing from nursing. I am doing part time home health and loving it...however, the company I started to work for cant' provide insurance and full time hours...
  2. Thanks for the advice...I just don't want to go the medice route to treat my anxiety, thats why I haven't seen anyone. I do realize that if I do go see I doctor it will not make weaker. However, I do feel weak that I am letting my emotions get so out hand and get myself so worked up.
  3. Once I'm an hour to two into the shift I am fine, once I get home I usually good too...this only happens on the day that I have to go back to work.
  4. I need some advice. I've been working as an RN for about a year and a half. I have been on Med/surg/tele floor for a complete year and prior to that I was at a LTC. I'm worried my anxiety is going to get to me one of these days. I haven't had anything tremdously horrible happen to me...however, there were days where we were understaffed, had a heavy load, or patients that went down the hill fast...Everyone tells me I am a great caring compassionate nurse. My supervisors and co-workers I work with respect me and are willing to help me when moments arise where I don't know what to do in difficult situation. I do enjoy what I do, however, the anxiety is getting worse and worse. I have tried to pin point where the anxiety is coming from and I can't. I have a great supporting husband and kids. Yes, I do work night shift, but I've been managing it fine for a year now. I have good co-workers. I have a good salary. But everytime I am off for a certain amount of days and come back for the first night my anxiety is horrible. I can't eat anything, I'm nausead, I am constantly running to the bathroom with an upset stomach, I can't sleep or rest...I have nightmares about it. I get jittery and pace the house...the food I try to eat all tastes funny....and I just get so worked up that on the way to work I end up crying...over nothing really. I am not usually emotional person. I thought that with experiance and more knowledge I'll be able to brace my anxiety...but I see nursing is a constant learning experiance. I see other nurse smile coming into work...calm relax...enjoying life outside...but I count down hours and minutes before I head out back to work. I know this is not healthy. Please advice if anyone had this happen or what I could do to get rid of anxiety.
  5. Hi, Does anyone know what Williamson County Medical Center starting salary is for new nurses. Saw a couple of posting for Rn positions and am curious what the salary is compared to the once in Nashville and Murfresboro. If anyone can help me out, that be great! Thanks,
  6. Privet. Hi! I am originally from Ukraine that relocated to Austin in July. I was hoping to talk with you, because recently I got accepted to one of the health systems in San Antonio. I thought you might like the information. I decided to work in Austin instead since my family is here. Let me know through email if you intreasted in the information, and I will help out as much as I can. I am a new grad to, with six months of RN experiance. Talk to you soon, Liliya
  7. I apologize in advace if this is complicated to understand. I am graduating in May with my ASN from a Philadelphia college. My husband and I decided to move to Northwest Austin area. The job market in Philadelphia is very competative for nurses because of numerous of nursing schools and the economy. Since I have a family, I can not have the pleasure of a long commute to the city hospitals and suburb hospitals are not hiring. Anyway, because it is so competative and because PA allows hiring GN for RN positions we were told to start applying now for a position now. Should I be doing the same thing for Austin hosptials. I have talked to Texas BON and they said that I can take my NCLEX in Texas and get my texas licenses with out a problem, even though I finished school in another state. Can I still apply for RN positions without my licenses? I really would like to have a job lined up, before we move to Texas. I don't want to wait and take my nclex in PA and then transfere my license to TX because I think this would be an extra step. I was looking into St. David Northwest Hopsital. Any advice would be greatly appreciated on how I can do this. Thank you.
  8. I am graduating from Gwynedd Mercy...When you say the pay is a lot less, what do you consider less. Can you elaborate a little more. If I will be moving with my family, which includes a 3 year old and a newborn...so I really have to calculate the pay salary versus spendings. I have an aproximate estimate for how much apartments are where we want to live, but I would like to know what kind of salary, to balance out expenses. If you don't want to post here, can you please send me a private message. Also, how is the program? Has it benefitted you as a nurse? When did you apply and how was the application process? It would be so nice to get these answers. I'm looking forward to the warmer weather and the friendly people...It snowed today and is freezing here in Philly. I hate it.
  9. Hello, I have a few questions regarding the RN residency with Seton Hospitals. Has anyone done them, applied, worked there? I am graduating in May of '09 in Philadelphia and my family is relocating to Austin area. This seems to be something that I am very intreasted in, however, I don't know much about it. If some one can give me a detail idea of what they do, pay, application process, and so forth that would be great. I'm guessing I should be applying now. Thank you
  10. For me relocate somewhere is much harder, as I have a family, and expecting a baby in April, however, if I was single, I probably would seriously consider Austin, Texas. They have great nursing positions for grad nurses, and rn residencies. I've been really considering this option, however, for me its unrealistic to move that far. Regarding this area, I'll be looking around smaller cities near Philadelphia like the ones I've mentioned above.
  11. I'm graduating in May 2009 too, however, I'm thiking about relocating somewhere outside of philly because a lot of hosptial systems around philadelphia or within the city are either on a freeze or are hiring with experiance only. This is from my research and experiance within the past couple of weeks. Maybe other's think otherwise. If you go outside of the philly to cities like Lancaster, Reading, Brandywine, Leigh High Valley....then maybe there is better chance, however, for me, its to far of a commute.
  12. I believe so. All my instructors were great. Many clinicals allow students to go to ER, ICU, surgery and other areas, so that we can get a feel for other hospital senerios other than med/serg and telementry. I haven't taken maternity yet, I'm starting that on Thursday, so I can't say much about behavioral or maternity. The med/serg and complex adult health were very intreasting. I also think it depends on who your clinical instructor is, however, I've had 5 different instructors and I can't complain about any of them as instructors. They are very knowledgable and try to assign patients that had conditions that we were covering at the time. Good Luck!
  13. I'm graduating from Gwynedd Mercy RN day program in May. I know that their weekend program runs almost parralel to what we covered. Most of the teachers are the same, the clinical hopsitals are the same and so are the instructors. I am very happy with Gwynedd. Its a hard program that requires time, however, they are there to help you. Many of my instructors mentioned that they also teach/instuct clinicals on the weekends, and I love the instructors. This isn't a program where if you don't study you'll do fine. You have to really read the chapters, class notes, and study to do good. If you have any questions let me know.
  14. I'm located 10 minutes away from Abington Hopsital. Idealy, it would be perfect to work there, since I already know that hospital fairlly well from clinicals and personal reasons. However, they are not hiring grad nurses or without experiance. I checked Brandywine, they are hiring, however, its so far way from where I live. If I was single it would be easier to move, however, I'm married and have a three year old daughter and expecting another baby in April. So, if I relocated it better be for a long term position.
  15. I'm graduating in May, and I'm having a very hard time finding any type of postion outside of philadelphia, in the suburbs, that don't require one or more years of experiance. Anyone have any ideas as to where I can look further. I really don't want to work in center city. Thanks
