I was hired by the facility that I worked as a CNA....they offered me an LPN job once I passed my boards this past January.....I was literally thrown on the floor with only 4 days of training and lied to about how I was going to have more training, which I should've had 2 weeks....I was furious and I ended up working a med cart in LTC by myself for 3 weeks and in the process of working the cart the DON was riding me every day about something I didn't do or forgot to do or some documentation that I didn't do right or whatever, it was always something....and keep in mind just about each day I asked for more training, the training they told me that I would get but I never received. I was literally so tired of this DON stalking me it was crazy....I started to hate to be a nurse, I didn't like my job....I got off work late and slept most of the day....I was really thinking about going PRN.....finally after 3 weeks of asking for more training the DON came to me last Friday and said I am going to give you 2 more days of training (this would give me a total of 6 days) on first shift and after that you are on your own....OK so Monday went well with training and Tuesday I thought was going well until it was about time for us to go home at 3 pm and the DON came and got me and the nurse that trained me....she talked to us one at a time, first the nurse that trained me, but when it was time for her to talk to me she told me to follow her....I was looking confused....so we walked and went into a room with the Employee relations lady and the DON basically told me that she was letting me go because she thinks I need to work in a hospital first to get more training.....She says after you come from the Hospital you come back here and I will hire you back....and I am thinking WTF...are you serious....so she then says that I don't know my Pharmacology....LOL....I said what...she said one nurse that trained me said that I didn't know what Robitussin was....I said you got to be kidding me.....I told her that I asked that nurse where was the Robitussin located on the med cart....I know exactly what it is and then I went to break it down to her what the drug is and the classification and all ....She couldn't say anything....I told her you guys knew I was a new nurse when you hired me and as a matter of fact the Administrator called me for a job.....she said I just really believe you need to go to the hospital and get your training and then come back.....I said The only training I needed was on documentation, policy and procedure etc that I never received from you guys....I said I didn't have class on this I was just thrown on the floor to work and you are letting me go because of this....she kept saying that was her reason for letting me go.....I was and still am at AWE....I worked for this place for 6 months....5 as a CNA and 1 as a nurse and all of a sudden she want to let me go because I asked for more training....I told her, its best for me to get the training I ask for, for the sake of the residents and I am trying to protect my license.....

I am going to be real with you guys....I was highly pissed....who gets fired for wanting more training.....I seriously think it was more personal because I was standing up to her previously asking for more training....I have thought about going to EECO on them and reporting them to the state board of nursing but I am not sure if I should. What do you guys think I should do....in the meantime I have been looking for work...this all happened yesterday....

I want to be a Nurse but after working at that LTC facility it put a rotten taste in my mouth. My mom says ever place is not bad and unorganized as that place. They have state coming in all the time, they are really short on Nurses and CNA's. Its sad I had to experience my first nursing job as such and turn around and get fired for just wanting more training....I am soooooo pissed!!!!

Dimplez, First of all I would like to say, Welcome to the nursing profession, the most back stabbing profession you will ever be a member of. And the back biting and stabbing starts right at the top and works itself right to the bottom. You will learn many life survival skills while being a member. I also want to say that there is nothing you can do as you were most likely on probation. And when you apply for a new job, do not mention this place, wipe the slate clean and apply as a new grad nurse. Ask many questions of your potential new employer and make sure you get an adequate orientation. This is so important to your success as a nurse. Good luck and keep us all posted.

Heck go to a hospital, get decent training and NEVER go back there. A lot of LTC places are like that,, they expect people to just be thrown to the wolves after a couple days of orientation. Go and dont look back.

Honey, use them as a reference and, when asked why you left, say that you were nervous because your training was so minimal that you were worried that you were operating beyojnd your knowledge. Nothing negative about them, just that YOU chose to leave because of that. The former employer will only verify dates and you will be just fine. The other facilities in the area know about this place, believe me.

I was just hired after a similar situation and it was rather implicitly understood that I did not leave the former place on good terms but it was never pursued and I was never questioned about it.

Don't worry. You'll find another, better, job.

:yeahthat: Excellent advice.
