Hi, I just got a NICU RN position and will be starting in one month!:) I am a WHNP with many years of experience in L&D and Mother/Baby and teach on those units, but have wanted to work in NICU for awhile. I am wondering what textbook to read first to get started. I saw the recommended list of books on this site and purchased Merenstein's "Handbook of NIC" but am wondering what else is a "must read"? Also which certification book is best...should I get the "Core Curriculum for NICU" or the "Certification and Core Review for NICU". Any thoughts much appreciated! THANKS EXPERIENCED NICU NURSES! HAPPY TO JOIN YOU!!!:redbeathe:yeah:

I have both of the "core" books you mentioned, and find them very helpful. Welcome to the NICU.

Congratulations on your new job!!! NICU is a wonderful experience, one I hope I can get back to soon:)

Wish you the best :)

both books are excellant! It takes a good 2 years in the NICU before you know what you're doing

obprof welcome to NICU RN's. I know how you feel. am a newbie NICU RN too...though am in NICU for almost 7 months now. I still consider myself a novice. I agree to miss mary that it will take years before we know everything about NICU. I hope i will find more knowledge and strength by being active again in this site. I would just like to know if there is any pdf file of books on NICU that i can download? am hoping for any suggestions from this site!thank you!
