Hi all,
I am a new grad who recently passed the NCLEX! In about amonth, I will start in a level III NICU. I was wondering if anyone has anyadvice on what to read up on. My school went over neonatal material for all of2 seconds, and I feel like I don't know anything. I would just like to learnabout the most common diseases and abbreviations. Also, does anyone have areport sheet that they like to use? Thanks in advance!

Merenstein & Gardner's "Handbook of Neonatal Intensive Care" or "Core curriculum for neonatal intensive care nursing". Either one will help you learn the major medical issues in NICU.

Look for NICU info online that is aimed at parents, this would be a nice way to ease yourself into the lingo and for the typical prem stuff, before diving into the complexities of a neonatal textbook.
I'll post some stuff to focus on when I'm not walking and can type better haha
You can look up and familiarize yourself with the following meds:
-ampicillin
-gentamicin/tobramycin
-cefotaxime
-vancomycin
-metronidazole
-fluconazole
-vitamin K
-ferrous sulphate/iron
-vitamin D
-caffeine
-human milk fortifier (don't know if this necessarily counts as a med)
-phosphate
-calcium
-NaCl supplements
-Tylenol
You should be focusing on dosing calculations, administration guidelines, compatibility for IV drugs, risks and contraindications
Thank you for the responses! I will take these into consideration.
