  1. Hi Haba! I was wondering was the pay equivalent to ND. I'm thinking about moving to PCB area in a few months and I'm worried about pay difference.
  2. Thank you for the responses! I will take these into consideration.
  3. Hi all, I am a new grad who recently passed the NCLEX! In about amonth, I will start in a level III NICU. I was wondering if anyone has anyadvice on what to read up on. My school went over neonatal material for all of2 seconds, and I feel like I don't know anything. I would just like to learnabout the most common diseases and abbreviations. Also, does anyone have areport sheet that they like to use? Thanks in advance!
  4. Hi, I just wanted to let you know that there are paid externships. I know the hospitals where I live do pay you, and its more than regular CNA II pay. I completed a program last summer. Although I didn't get an offer on the unit I wanted, I was able to use the experience to really learn a lot about the nursing field. I also was able to use the information I learned towards my interviews. I know a few people who went to other states to do externships and were paid. I highly recommend it! You network quite easily this way. Even if you don't stay at the same hospital, you will have a significant leg up on other applicants. Hope this helped!
  5. if you just google UNC Chapel Hill New Grad Program it should come up. Otherwise: Careers at UNC Health Care
  6. Teedlepeep, have you heard anything?
  7. Hi BFG, I wanted to point out that your school options are quite dispersed. It is true that not all nursing programs are created equally, but there is no need to dig yourself into tremendous debt! I say go ahead with your BSN because hospitals are pushing for ADN students to go get their BSNs. However, I recommend staying within your state. You can always apply to work outside of your current state once you graduate. UNC is a great school, yet very costly. I'm assuming you are from the North. If you think the cost of living would really rectify paying out of state tuition, then go for it. Its just in my opinion it is who you know not where you go!
  8. Got a call! Will update when I hear back!!
  9. I know this is forever ago, but I'm highly interested in ICN. However, I got a call for the CTICU. I don't know what to do. There is an open house for their Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and I'm really struggling whether I should go or not. Also, I don't know whether to message HR about the open house opportunity. Did you just apply online, or go to open houses??
  10. That is something I wondered myself! I'm unsure if they meant 30 total or 3 a piece. They didn't give a clear number for the applicants, but it was significantly lower.... like in the 300's. I don't think so. I'm still waiting to hear back myself. Hopefully the interviews start flowing in.
  11. Thanks for getting back to me! I have an interview at Duke, but am unsure whether I will take it because it is not the specialty I would like. Do you recommend Duke?
  12. When HR came to my school they mentioned that women's health and pediatrics have about 30 spots open. ED and critical care are also competitive, but if you open to things, then hopefully you'll hear something soon. I am from in state as well, but I would have to believe that passing the NCLEX and already having some experience should be a positive. You would be a sure bet! No chance they'd have to drop you if you failed the exam. Keep me updated!!! I'd love to hear where you end up.
  13. Hey all! I applied to the February 2018 start date for Chapel Hill and was wondering if anyone has heard anything yet. There's a rumor that Chapel Hill drags with the application process compared to other NC hospital systems.
  14. Hey Novist Nurse, As far for December Grads the competition is a lot lower than if you graduated in May. Can't give you specifics, but you have a good shot. I do have to mention that almost everyone I know wants PEDS or women's services. So it may be more of a hassle, but its worth a shot. As far as interviews I believe offers have not been extended yet, unless you are an internal employee. Otherwise, it looks like HR will reach out after applications are due (October 1). Pay for acute care setting is said to be around 21.75, so probably the lowest in the area. You are also asked to sign a contract with the length depending on what specialty you accept. Every hospital has its pros and cons. I would more so look at if the employees are happy on the unit. One unit can differ greatly from the other. There are people who have worked years there, and there are others who can't wait to leave. Still working on the license myself...
