new member - new life - leaving old blighty for a two year nursing contract in dubai at the american hospital, anyone with any experience of nursing in this part of the world i'd be interested to hear from you! cheers!!!

Oh, I know well WHERE it is, and as you stated, it being the jewel of the Middle East... have watched several good programs on it and all... just meant couldn't offer any PERSONAL experiences or info on it. Sounds fascinating and exciting... I do wish you a marvelous time and memoriable experience there ! Keep us posted, and send an occasional photo or two !

hi all,

i'll definately try and send photos from my experiences in dubai - all depends on what internet facilities etc. will be available to me (i'm sure though that won't be too much of a problem). i'm armed with my digital camera and ready to go!!

dear 1984,

i worked over there some years ago and some friends worked in the american

hospital.

i went on a holiday there and got back last week, things have changed!!

i'm sure you'll fit in and enjoy dubai if:

you like to dress up and eat in exclusive restaurants and it doesn't cost the earth.

you like to lavish yourself in the best quality gold and diamonds avaliable, that again don't break the bank.

have a year round sun tan.

go to balls and cocktail parties wearing handmade silk dresses that yet again don't cost much.

buy a 4x4 and fill your tank for about 40dhs which is about £7.00!!!

you work very hard there and long hours and the pay was never fantastic but everything is tax free. also it depends what benefits are thrown in for you.

the apartments my friends lived in were huge, fully furnished and a stones throw of shops, bars and restaurents in bur-dubai.

the arabs in dubai, no problem.

be sensible but remember there is hardly any crime.( who would be stupid enough to do anything there??)

june, july and august are unbearable, humid hot and horrible.

try to take any annual leave then.

your money does go along way.

taxis are dirt cheap!! and there mercedes!!

i'm desperate to get back. just waiting for the right job to turn up for my boyfriend.
