New LPN Interviewing...thankful for finding this site but SCARED

Published

First off, I'm thankful that I found this site today...I've been reading posts like crazy and I feel a little comforted. I just passed the NCLEX-LPN and had my first interview last week with two more lined up for next week. Here's my dilemna...I am feeling petrified about finally starting my new career...I worked as a CNA six years ago (for about 1 1/2 years) but to be honest I didn't get much experience at all during clinical rotations...one TB test, a few insulin injections and a few IVPB but no wound care, no catheters and not even a lot of direct patient care (I spent A LOT of time with my patients but not actually providing hands on care/skills)...which scares me as I interview and prepare to start my first nursing job. I was very honest with in my first interview as far as my lack of real skills experience but am not really sure how to or if I can "prepare" myself in the meantime--it's been two months since my last clinical and I just feel like I'm losing all of that knowledge and will be a bumbling fool when I do land a position. Thanks for letting me vent/freak out and again I am very thankful I stumbled upon this site!!

Hopefully you will have a good orientation experience....and get lots of hands on experience.

Ask questions and don't do anything you are not sure of.

I am just completing my first year as an RN and still as questions daily.

Best of luck to you. :heartbeat

Thanks, Jessi!! I'm working on breathing and just going with the process.

No one ever feels they have enough clinical experience. The main thing to do in clinicals is to seek out those experiences. All the nurses I have worked with and told that I don't feel I have done enough during my clinical rotations all tell me that nursing is really learned on the job. Hopefully, you will have a very thorough orientation, a good preceptor, and wonderful support. Don't dwell too much on the lack of experience, but look forward to continuing your education on the job. Best of luck.

i think we all know what your feeling.
