New here! looking for information on becoming an RN

Published

hey guys! My name's Tiffany, i'm 20. I was just wondering if anyone can give me information on how to become an RN.I'm looking to become a midwife and will need to become a registered nurse before going into school for a midwife. any help and i'll love you forever! i'm getting such a headache looking onlineand calling school only to have them say they only have nursing assistant classes. Do you just go to school to become an RN? or is it like with a midwife... and have to go to school for something else before becomeing an RN?

I'm expecting a baby october 3rd. So, that was my wake up call to get a move on things for my little boy. I Don't want to have to depend on the father... since nothing is forever these days! if it makes it easier to talk, please contact me on my AIM (aol instant messanger) Heavenlykissez97

thanks alot!,

Welcome! Midwife programs are usually at a Masters level, so you need a BSN degree, which is the four-year college degree.

There are also 2 year (which with pre-reqs and waiting lists usually takes up to four years as well) Associates Degree in Nursing which will lead you to get your RN. Then you can bridge RN to BSN to get the BSN and then on to midwives school.

Your best bet is to stop by your local school and talk to an advisor to see what programs they have and which is the best route for you.

Good luck and welcome to Allnurses!

alright thanks... now finding a school that offers more then just classes on nursing assisting! Is there a number i can call to find out which school offer what i need? haha. i've been calling places all day! i don't think i should ask one of the schools, they might take offense in asking about other schools.

everything online on obtaining a nursing degree does not list any massachusetts schools (only online degree's). Going to school online is a joke! how lazy have people become? i really don't know where to call.

have you tried allnursingschools.com? it's REALLY helpful in finding programs near you... you mentioned massachusetts, so here's a link to their list of schools in that state. i hope it helps!

Welcome! A word of advice - don't get discouraged, whatever you do! If this is your dream, then follow it, regardless. The wait lists at the schools can be scary, but apply anyway and then get to working on your pre-reqs, that will help the time pass and you have to have them before you can get in anyway. Don't let them scare you away by telling you the typical waitlist is X amount of months/years. I was really bummed when I found out I would have to wait, but I only waited a year and I took pre-reqs two at a time, so it worked out perfect that I was done when I finally got accepted.

Best of luck to you! Enjoy the pursuit of your dreams! :)
