Look, you have to cut yourself some slack. I'm new to my unit too and also to paper documentation. I'm constantly catching myself signing off meds in the wrong column or something similar. Now that you're aware there is a problem, just double check your work. You'll get past this.

thanks, needed tohear that . I cant let one mistake blow me over.

How is your job going?

What you need to realise is what you did right!

1) You knew you had made a mistake. Some people I know would not have even realised that.

2)You reported the mistake to your manager. Some people I know would have tried to cover the mistake up.

3) You see the need to avoid these mistakes. And I bet you never make this mistake again

Just be a bit easy on yourself.

I hope you go on and continue enjoying working in Psych for many more years.

Don't put so much pressure on yourself...that in itself may increase the chances of making a mistake. It does with me anyway. There are days I feel rather diligent and scrutinize everything I do...and than BAM... made a mistake. I find if I calm down and go with the flow and just do what I do...than I don't seem to be so nervous and that greatly decreases my chances of making mistakes.

Celebrate your successes! I think we do not do this enough and only remember where we screw up which leads to frustrations.

Breathe and enjoy your job. Will you make some "silly" mistakes?....sure, but don't get discouraged. Learn the lesson and move on.

And sometimes there's a bright side to the mistakes... like a patient who got a few too many Thorazines (long story), she thought we were trying to kill her but at least she finally stopped screaming and fell asleep.

I think I was fortunate to make some real doozies as a new grad which taught me all the usual lessons but also- it might not be as bad as it seems so don't panic.
