I'm sending this cover letter to HR (I've spoken to them on the phone, and their application requires a cover letter). When I spoke to HR, they would try to get into a surgical unit (except the positions open are for new grads and people with 2 years experience. I have 1 year and 4 months experience total). There's a possibility they could move my application to a surgical unit, but the positions I can apply for are for bone marrow transplant only.
This is what my cover letter looks like.
My name is Rum Wynnie, and I am writing to express an interest in a Registered Nurse position at Hyrule Cancer Hospital. I obtained my Bachelor's of Science in Nursing at Dumbledore University, and my husband is in the process of moving back to Castle Town after serving eight years in the Hyrule Military. I applied for my Castle Town License, and I can provide proof and eligibility.
My background is in general surgical nursing. I currently work on a medical-surgical floor that cares for primarily bariatric, thorocotomy, vascular, and head and neck surgical patients. Caring for some of these patients required additional competencies such as knowledge of peritoneal dialysis and telemetry monitoring. As part of my job, I was required to take two classes to work in an Intermediate Care Unit, a unit my manager also oversaw. In Intermediate Care, I was responsible for patients who required IV pressors or other IV antiarrhythmic agents in addition to telemetry monitoring.
While the majority of my patients have been surgical, I am open to other opportunities in nursing and at HCH.
I look forward to speaking with you further about this position.
