Hi All,

I am a career changer - looking to leave marketing and enter the world of nursing. I have a BA degree already but I don't think I'll be doing an accelerated BSN program (due to finances and not being able to work during the accelerated BSN program). So, I'm looking to enter Essex County College's evening RN program.

Is there anyone presently in it? I read somewhere that you'll be in class fromo 5:30 until 11 or so..and clinicals on the weekend.

Anyone who is presently enrolled, any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey I am basically in the same boat. I already have my BS in Biology but didnt do so good with my grades in my major and did excellent in my prereqs. Anyways I am in ECC now and am taking Anatomy and Chem 1 over now and plan on applying to the nursing program for next spring. I work in pharma now and want to go back into it after a few years of experience with nursing.

Are you currently at ECC taking classes?

I'm taking A&P I next semester..and Chemistry in the summer. I'm working full-time and since it will be my first time back at school in 8 years..I don't want to take both at the same time. I want to do well! lol

Who are you taking Anatomy and Chem with? So you would be starting nursing next month? Are you doing the evening or day program? I plan to start the evening program in Fall 09.

Im taking Anatomy I with Dr. Oleforoh. He is very difficult and more than half of my class is flunking. I have a 85% so far so I hope to get an A- based on the final next week. He is a MD and does this for FREE but works you like your grade determins his next paycheck lol. He does not play at all with his lectures so you have to be on your A game at all times.

Im taking Professor Li for Chem I and her accent is very thick. If you have never taken chem before I would not suggest you take her because she acts as if you should know everything already and a lot of people have dropped her class since the beginning because of it.

I wanted to apply for next fall but I have to wait till next spring because I can only go to school at night. I work full time in the day. Good luck with your classes. I'm taking A&P II and psych next semester and plan on taking Micro next fall so that when I do start the nursing program I wont be toooooooo swamped.

Great. Well, I've check out ratemyprofessors.com to find out how all the professors rank. So, I'll see who I get. You're taking both classes AND working full-time..how is THAT going? That's what I DON'T want to do next semester...urgh!

Wait..when does the evening RN program start? Only in the spring? I thought you have to be complete with your pre-reqs by Summer I and then you take the NET in September..which it says online.

I'm confused... lol

I'm going to ECC tomorrow anyway..so I can ask..

So far everything has been going well for me with work and school. I gotta double up now so it wont be too much for me later. I am taking A&P II, micro and psych over the spring and fall semester next year and have some other classes covered from my previous school so that when im officially in the program I wont be swamped taking 3-4 classes then. I wont be able to work doing 3-4 classes so I am doing all I can now.

Oh ok..cool. True..I think the more classes you get out of the way..the better. So then, all you have are the nursing classes to concentrate on!:yeah:

You'll be taking your NET in September too? We have to stay in contact because we'll be enrolling in nursing school at the same time!:D

I register next week for Anatomy..any tips on how to get an A?

Read up on your lesson before class and be sure to bring in questions if you have any. Read read and then read some more. Make sure you understand what you read as well. Thats where a lot of people from my class got mixed up. They read but didnt understand what they read so when the teacher would ask questions they would only write what they remember but its clear they have no clue what it is they are saying. This class requires a lot of time and effort but its very possible to do well in this course if you do your best.

Great..I'll let you know who I end up with!

I am a professional in the media that is looking to start a career in nursing. I completed college in 1997 and studied art. At the present time I am going to apply at Essex County College for their weekend college but I am not sure if nursing is offered. I am also not sure how many evenings are available since I work full time during the day. Does anyone know? Thanks-
