Hi all,
I will be graduating with my BSN next May (2010) and am wondering if it's possible to work in Australia as a new graduate nurse from the US. I would like to go for a year on a working holiday visa and would like to go as soon as I get my RN license. Thanks in advance for any info! Cheers!

Do you mean to work in one place for a year and then travel around, or to try and travel around and get per diem work as a new grad?
I want to just work in Sydney mostly. I was looking up new graduate programs in the Sydney area and they are all 12 months so I'd have to apply for a sponsorship from the hospital and go under a temporary business stay visa since the working holiday visa only allows you to work with one employer for up to 6 months. I'm just wondering, but does anyone know how often new grads from overseas are offered positions in these programs? Since I would have to find a program with an intake date mid-year do you think I'd have a better chance of gaining a spot since most Australian new grads start in Jan?

We'e had a few grads from NZ but that might be different because of the reciprocal agreement between us.

I would seriously doubt that a non ANZ nurse would get a position in a formal grad year program. Doesn't mean noone would let you work there, but would be harder with no experience, I'd imagine.
What's the rush? Why not get a year or two experience and then go?
Try the Sydney Adventist Hospital

They have 3 intakes a year, take overseas graduates and have accommodation on the hospital site, which would relieve you of the pressure to find accommodation before you arrive.
