New Graduate HELP, looking for position in VA!

U.S.A. Virginia

Hello Everyone!

I graduated in December 2013 and took/passed my boards in July . My problem is that I can't find a job :( I am pretty much free and flexible as a bird! So far I only have a job as a Flu clinic nurse from August to November just to have some experience I can put on my resume and it gives me a reason to use my license till the meantime. But I need a permanent job :( I live in Frederick county MD. I have applied at Winchester, VA, FMH, Hagerstown, Baltimore and Leesburg VA. I keep telling myself that there is a job out there for me, but I am starting to lose hope. Any advice?

Specializes in NICU.

Are you free enough to move anywhere? I would go on indeed.com and any hospital website that interests you and look for nurse residency or new grad openings. The market is extremely bad for new grads and you can't limit yourself to one area, if possible. I have a temp NC license and I am applying for a permanent NC license (had a phone interview for a job last week)and possibly a Ohio and Kentucky to open up my possibilities because the Indianapolis area is too saturated.

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

Are you only applying at hospitals? You might need to cast a wider net if that's the case. Why such a long gap between graduation and NCLEX?

You could easily find a job in several VA locations. Richmond, roanoke, christiansburg, midlothian, williamsburg, chesterfield, colonial heights! Hospitals,, home health, LTCs, doctor offices, and assisted living will hire you. I know these areas are far from your house but it may be worth the move to get a few years experience under your belt! !
