I AM A NEW GRADUATE ON LONG ISLAND. WAITING TO TAKE THE NCLEX NEXT MONTH:uhoh3: I CAN'T DECIDE WHETHER I SHOULD STAY AT MY CURRENT JOB IN A DERMATOLOGISTS OFFICE SALARY IS $30 HR, NO BENE

OR WORK IN A HOSPITAL. I WORKED AS A CNA ALREADY IN A HOSPITAL ON A MED SURG FLOOR, AND YES WE WERE ALWAYS SHORT STAFFED AND OVER WORKED. I AM 45, SO DO I GO FOR THE HOSPITAL AND GET BURNT OUT AND STRESSED QUICKLY. OR WORK IN A DR OFFICE. I'M AFRAID THAT I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO PRACTICE WHAT I LEARNED IN SCHOOL.

WOULD LIKE SOME ADVICE FROM THE PROS WHO HAVE BEEN OUT THERE AWHILE.

THANKS

Why not do both? Is there a possibility of taking on two part time jobs? Just a suggestion. I personally love the clinic setting. The hours are much better and the stress levels are lower. But no benefits in the clinic? I get awesome benefits working in a clinic. Do your research, take your time and check things out. Make a list of priorities in a job that you want. Go from there....Good Luck!!

Maybe see if you can get a PRN or Per Diem position at the hospital-just to see what it is like. I really understand your fear of "losing" your skills. But you also need to be where you feel happiest-A few women that I graduated with went right to a doc's office-they knew that they would be happy there-you need to follow your gut instinct, weigh the pros and cons; and finally, remember, no decision HAS to be permanent-if you want to change your mind 6mos down the road, you can-the jobs are out there. Best of Luck.
