New grads starting at Washington Hospital Center

U.S.A. Washington DC

Are there any other new grad RNs starting at Washington Hospital Center in the February Residency program? What speciality area would you be working in? Would also be great to hear feedback from RNs who started there recently or who have worked there for a while. I'm super excited to start!!!

Hey everyone. I know that many of you on here have been working as nurses at WHC from your posts. Can anyone shed a light on what it's like there? Did you enjoy the new grad program? Do you like what you do? Would you recommend working there as a new nurse?

I applied to their new grad program that starts in July 2010 and was wondering how people like it. Thanks!

Same question. If anybody could share how is it working there as a RN, and esp. details abt the new grad program that would be really appreciated. They have fired a lot of nurses lately for med errors that affected about 25 patients, so I have been told by a friend who works there (not as a nurse though). Not sure how that affects hiring interviews, orientation and all that. Anybody started in their february new grad program? Anybody working there currently willing to share?

I'm so excited and nervous! I have an interview Friday at 11am on the stroke unit! Does anyone have an idea what kinds of questions are usually asked? I'm really hoping for this job. :redbeathe

fuuchan,

Good luck on ur interview. Never worked there so cant help out with questions for the interview but please share your experience after the interview... i'll be anxious to hear it!

Good luck, I'm sure you'll do wonderful and you'll get the job!! Be prepared, relaxed and confident!

PS: by the way do you have a DC license already? Are u a new grad?

fuuchan - hey good luck! are u interviewing on 2F? that's where i interviewed. the nurse recruiter asks you normal interview questions like 'why do you want to be a nurse' type of things. the nurse manager will ask you clinical questions and customer service questions. they're all situational. maybe we'll be in the new grad program together.

i'm still waiting to see if anyone who's been in the new grad program at WHC are willing to share the nitty gritty details on their experiences.

Hi everyone,

I have an interview scheduled for the 23rd at 10am but they didn't tell me what unit I'm applying for, which makes it hard for me to prepare. I called HR and they said they would determine that when I'm there. ICU was my first choice but apparently they require a minimum of 1 year experience... Is anyone else in the same situation and don't know what unit they will interview on? The email they sent says to meet at the True Auditorium at 10am.

Also, does anyone have any recommendations on a hotel? I'm taking Megabus from NY into DC the night before the interview and don't want to end up having to going through a dangerous area.

I am a new grad and I have my license in FL. I would have to apply for endorsement in DC.

I also have an interview the same day as you, the 23rd at 10am, true auditorium i guess is where everything is happening. I dont have any other details either. Not sure about hotels, I just moved here myself. I guess I'll see you there on June 23rd!!!

Ok. I was just worried, if get offered a position, the times its gonna take to endorse my license over to DC since it has to be done before the 19th.

thank you for the details karaokerfrog, how were the clinical questions? were they pretty deep, kinda nclex like or were there more common sense type of questions? How did you prepare for the interview and how do you think you did? Have u gotten any feedback from them or offer? Sorry for all the questions, just tryin to have an idea about how it all works. They seem pretty secretive about the whole thing so...

I'm not sure what floor it's going to be on. I spoke with the nurse recruiter and I have to meet with her at 10am then the nurse manager at 11. Was she nice? I'm normally fairly confident but for some reason I'm so nervous about this. That would be awesome if we were in the program together. I don't know anyone in DC. :o

To those who have received the confirmation email, when did you get it? Also do you have ASN or BSN degree?

Thank you!

I'm going to try to answer bunch of ppl the best I can.

Hotel - WHC is in a not that great of an area so I would probably get a hotel downtown. I use priceline or hotwire to get good deals. A hotel in downtown Silver Spring, MD may work too since the red line goes there. You can take the red line to Catholic U stop and catch a free hospital shuttle. You can also take the Green/Yellow to Columbia Heights stop and catch a free hospital shuttle. There are a few bus lines that go there too from downtown DC.

Interview - I think I got about half of the clinical interview questions wrong. When I went, the nurse manager was absent so I interviewed with the assistant mgr. She was really nice. She'll give you vital signs and ask what would cause certain symptoms or ask you what kind of orders you anticipate from a doctor for certain symptoms. Customer service questions were something like, a patient complains about something and what would u do.

When I got the call from the nurse recruiter, she named several units and asked me which one I would want to interview in. I chose Stroke unit. After the interview, I found out it's more of a med-surg unit. So 2F is the med surg stroke. Less acute than a step down unit. I think it'll be an excellent unit for a new grad. My interview was the same way as everyone else's - 10am with the nurse recruiter then 11am with the nurse manager.

Education/Licensing - I have a BSN. New grad. Taking NCLEX this month. I'm told that you can walk into the DC BON with all your paperwork and walk out with a license the same day if you are getting it by endorsement.

Good luck everyone!
