Hey everyone!
I'm a new grad in the Nashville area...having a hard time getting hired. Anyone else experiencing the same thing? Let me know if any of you have any tips!! Or if anyone knows of a hospital around here that hires new grads! :) Thanks!

The Vanderbilt Nurse Residency program is an awesome place for new grads in Nashville! It's competitive but, if you get in, it's a great opportunity to grow from new grad to "real" nurse! There's a thread here at allnurses. Just search Vanderbilt Nurse Residency. The next application deadline is coming up quickly! Good luck.
Thanks for the tip! I looked through the thread and saw that it is a paid internship...Any idea how much?

Baptist and St. Thomas hire many new grads.

Its not an internship its a job. Starting pay is $18.25
And then you get shift differential for evening/nights and weekends. Not the best pay in town but the benefits and experience are making the difference for me!

I have appled to over 70 jobs at St. Thomas and Baptist combined and not gotten so much as a call... I think its a tight market for new grads right now. Its a catch 22 - they want someone with experience, well we can't get experience without a job! Dangit! Good Luck to all you new grad searching!

I just searched their website for jobs and it says on all the RN jobs "must have 12 months experience" or "must have 2 years experience"! Ahh! I am graduating in May 2011 and moving to Nashville. Things are not looking good for new grads...

I've been applying to nursing jobs for over a year, and they don't seem to want me, either. I have 14 years of (continuous) hospital nursing experience (was certified in critical care), but have been a stay-at-home mom for the last 13 years. I completed a refresher course to reactivate my license and am current in BLS certification. So, it assume that current or recent nursing experience is what recruiters are looking for.!? I understand the frustration of those looking for work in the Nashville area.
Would be nice to know how many applicants recruiters are seeing per position--any recruiters to respond? I'm sure the economy is a big part of this problem. Do I have to volunteer to update skills in order to be considered?? I have a great work ethic and stellar work history.

What specific area are you looking to get back into? They (being hiring managers) are probably a bit reluctant to hire as you've been out of the loop for the past 13 years. Things have changed so much that they are probably looking at you as a "new grad".
Good luck!
I have applied to hospital jobs, clinic jobs, doctor's office jobs, even LPN and MA positions. I understand that things have changed a lot in 13 years. But, it's a blow to the ego to not have any credit given for 14 years of dedicated service. I would bet I could get up to speed pretty quickly. Too bad no one is willing to take a chance on hiring me. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I'm getting very discouraged looking for jobs in the Nashville area. I applied to and got a job interview for the Vanderbilt Nurse Residency program for January 2011, but did not get hired. I've interviewed for a couple of jobs at STHS---half way through one of the interviews, the interviewer tells me that she has just filled her last few positions and to keep looking! Why did I even get an interview if the positions were already filled? I have applied to so many jobs at St. Thomas/Baptist that I am now being told by their database that I have already applied for those positions and I cannot apply again.
Any suggestions?
