I graduated from a California LVN program in the middle of October and have been studying to keep things freshly in my mind for the state boards. However, how soon do I get to take the NCLEX? I'd rather take it while all the information is fresh in my head.
Would people from different states be kind enough to tell me how soon they had the opportunity to take NCLEX after graduating? How long was the wait (from the graduation date to the test date)? I was fingerprinted and completed my paperwork during the last week of school. My school pays the fees and sends in the paperwork for all graduates.
It would be devastating if I had to wait two or three months to take NCLEX. I hope the wait is much shorter. Thanks, everyone!

Provided that everything reaches the state BON, then you should only have a week or two to wait. Soemtimes just a tad longer.
Good luck with the preparation.

I'm from california and after I graduated it took me about 2 months to recieve the letter from the BONursing. After that you need to register and pay $200 to take the test. After a week, you will get your ATT letter. After that you need to make an appointment to take the test. So I can say about 3 months. K good luck and study hard. Don't forget to pray cause everybody needs the lords blessing to pass the test.

I took my test 2 weeks after graduating.
I graduated on October 14, which was about three weeks ago. Are you saying that I might not receive any correspondence from the state BON until the middle of December? Oh my gosh! Is there any way I could take the NCLEX in another state that processes things much more quickly? I am waiting here in dire poverty! Perhaps I'm not in dire poverty, but I need to start working soon.

Well, don't you know that you can start working as a LVN. Newly grad can be able to work but it's temporary only for six months. You should ask your school DON for more information about it. K bye

Hi...I'm from California also. As far as recieving your letter from BVNPT saying your eligible to test solely depends on when your school mailed your application with $75 to the board. I doubt if it will take as long as the end of december to get your letter. Since you graduated in October, the board isn't bombarded with a lot of applications like during the summer and december/january. Once you get your letter, I suggest you pay the $200 online for your test and within 5 minutes of payment you can schedule your test online as early as the next day if available. Now if you take the other route by paying by mail or phone, it'll take longer to get the paperwork to schedule your test. Once you schedule and take your test, it should take no longer than 3 weeks to get your results if you schedule your test before the december/january "rush." When you pass, you pay $100 for your license and then it should take about 2 weeks to recieve your license. I hope this was helpful for you... GOOD LUCK

I am from california too! It took 5 weeks from the time my application and $75 was mailed to the boards the get my package. After that I registered online and paid the $200 and got my ATT the same day via email. I then set up my nclex date for the end of the month.
Thanks so much to everyone who took the time to respond to my query. Bless you all! :)
