i am having no luck finding a job and i need one bad....it sucks not being able to find a job..i really dont want to work in ltc but im kinda leaning toward that as a last resort..i dnt know wat else to do...everyone wants experience and i dont have any...but how am i supposed to if no one will give me a chance.

thank you everyone for the responses and yea ya are right LTC isnt the end of the world maybe i can make a difference in the way things are going at a cetaing facility and hopefully treat residents a little better. I think I will put in an application for a LTC that is hiring. I actually did my clinicals during school at this facility. lol....crazy huh..experience is experience right!!

My first year was in LTC, the next 16 ICU. Nothing wrong with LTC as a first job, it took me 4 months to find that job after graduation.

If you want to be the Chef you have to start by washing the lettuce.

Just FYI, I know that University is hiring right now, and they do hire new RNs to their medical floors. They say they prefer a BSN, but they offered me a job with just an ADN. Also, the Methodist system in San Antonio is hiring some new nurses. The jobs are not listed under the nursing section, they are listed under nursing support as Nurse Externs. They have i think 3 listed right now, I just checked. It is for students or new grads. Good luck!

I am about to graduate in december and would like any help in finding a job preferablly in the Atlanta area. I have found that many hospitals do not open up their "new grad" positions until about a month before graduation. Any suggestions on what I can do to stand out amongst the boom of new graduates come december?

have you tried the places you did rotation at in school? I graduated in december and was hired in my current position in january. It just so happens, they remembered me from clinical. They hired two more class mates of mine too. just a suggestion, and try specialties, not ICUs or ERs but , Dialysis or Doctors offices. I know for a fact that those two areas are hiring, and they are willing to train.

Really? I'm surprised to hear that they aren't hiring in San Antonio because a friend of mine was recruited down there from Jersey (where the job postings basically say New Grads - don't even think about applyong) and ended up working at 2 hospitals. Same for her classmate. I'm even strongly considering heading to San Antonio next year after I graduate because of better opportunities. I wish you good luck!

Thank you all so much for the responses!!! and the tips...

I know your pain. I graduated in January and passed the NCLEX for the state of New Jersey in February. After applying to tons of hospitals and nursing homes I have received all of 2 interview thus far. And to be quite honest one of those interview was for the base hospital for my RN diploma program. And even though I participated in a Externship in the summer of 2009, I was not one of the chosen to go into the new graduate programs. Granted let me just say that there were 50 to 60 candidates vying for 5 spots. Yeah it tough out there especially in the northeast. I know that one poster in this thread basically stated in this tread that you have to move where the jobs are. Which is the right move (forgive the pun) for some Newly minted nurses. But unfortunately for me because of my significant other (government worker) I can't leave the area.

So what I'm going to try next is expand my search radius out of just the state of New Jersey. I have just received reciprocity from Connecticut and I'm working on getting reciprocity from the state of New York. Hopefully this help. Also I'm considering taking ACLS course to make myself more marketable. We shall see.

So in the end all we both can do is both press on and keep trying.

I wish you the very best of luck.:)
