  1. a new employee (RN) left for two weeks in the middle of his classes to get married with a honeymoon. our employer just stated to make sure he brought back pictures. if you inform them before training starts and while you are negotiating your contract, it's considered fine. That's were I work, good luck to you. keep us informed.
  2. i'm in dialysis and when a pt (particular pt comes to mind) starts to cramp i tell her to calm down. this is because she will start to hyperventilate and start a panic attack on top of the cramping; of course I try to talk her through the cramping, but calm down isn't inappropriate in all cases.
  3. i disagree, at last for upstate NY its fair game. this is mostly due to the fact that the BSN programs do not have a good reputation and the ADN programs do. I agree with gaining experience, but do not believe that the BSN are obtaining jobs just because they are BSN.
  4. i'm sorry this happened to you, good luck
  5. there are many avenues to obtain CE's. I am going to a conference which offer CE's and food. they have them online, and check with your states Nurses association (i'm from NY, I've gotten plenty from their web site), then there is your association (i'm part of anna) and nursing journals (i have at least three CE articles mailed to my house via one journal) and last there is your boss (my boss places copies in the brake room with a note stating you can copy the article, complete and summit for CE). I'm sure there are even more avenues, good luck in obtaining your CE's
  6. i know the va isn't hiring (even us with military experience, i wasn't alone when trying) due to the budget. I would try specialties, LTC and offices (they are willing to train). Good luck and I hope you find something you love.
  7. i hope this helps you with your class, good luck.
  8. who is donna cardillo???? i'm talking from experience, and talking to hr personal who either move your resume along or place it in the never to be seen pile. my school even had a local hospital hr personal come to our class to talk about this, he stated what i stated. again, good luck to the new rn and check the sources of those giving you advice.
  9. I was always taught to keep everything to one page, employers only want the highlights. I was also informed to always have a cover page. I've actually witness a employers throw out a two page resume (cover letter not included) stating that they were not going to read the person's entire history. short and to the point, express self in cover letter and interview. good luck.
  10. i've seen it in the ICU once (this was before i became a RN, I was a tech), and the pt was having a MI. I was really green an thought that every pt who had a MI needed a rectal tube , lets just say I was educated on that topic pretty fast.
  11. i've only seen one rectal tube and no it was not placed to wall suction.
  12. you've already started a thread with this topic. why another thread????
  13. they have resume samples on line, just for nurses. I would recommend a cover letter specific to the position applying for (my current boss stated that she remembered me from clinical when she saw me, she interviewed me because of my resume and cover letter.) good luck.
  14. thanks everyone. i'm sure it does happen everywhere, again i think its unsafe when so many are leaving the unit to smoke. the patient ratio triples at least when they leave to smoke. thanks again.
  15. I've told a nurse, that she used up her meal break smoking and to get back to her patients. my boss told me i couldn't do that and that everyone should get a meal break. i responded that she did, she just used it to smoke. i just don't understand my smoking coworkers, and how they justify the extra time to smoke. i'm trying to understand, but i can't.
