New Grad Starting Salary

Nurses New Nurse

Hi All,

I was just wondering what starting salary is for New Grads across the US. I am interested mostly in the Northern States (New York, New Jersey, Illinois), the Atlanta Market, TX, D.C., and California, but am curious about all areas.

Also, has anyone had any Travel Nursing experience? What is that like (i.e. pay, benefits, difficulty of the job, etc...)?

Thanks in advance.

residency program for the ED. BSN. cost of living is up there.. not high like CA or NYC, but it varies.

Great job. My goal is to get into a Critical Care residency. I was checking out Bridgeport Hospital as I am currently in a LPN program. I plan on attending Georgia States accelerated BSN program afterward. It's 16 months. Then relocare.

Was just offered a job in Northern VA. $25/hr with $3 night differential and $5 weekend/holiday differential, plus hourly goes up after your first year (not sure what it is after that!)

Congratulations Mindylane. What specialty are you working in?

Awesomeness! Congrats!!

Thank you! I'm SO excited. My first choice -- the NICU :)

St. Petersburg College grad working in the BayCare system. I didn't sit for my boards until March, so it only took me a couple weeks to find a job. And for it being five months since graduation, I'm one of the ONLY ones in my graduating class to have a job right now. The few I know that have jobs were working as techs, took jobs in nursing homes, or moved out of state. For me to have zero tech experience and land a hospital job is big. Most of my classmates can't even get interviews. It's a VERY bad job market for ADN new grads in Tampa Bay right now.

Wow. That's shocking. Especially knowing SPC's reputation. I guess it's a good thing that I am looking to relocate. I thought maybe it was just being a CNA that made it difficult to find CNA work. Out of 5 years of being a CNA, I have only had 2 hospital interviews, and they were both in GA.

I'm sure you're going to be GREAT! !! It's a blessing when you can work doing what you love.

I live an hr from Nashville and, as a new grad, started this job at $18.28/hr. I do get shift differentials, which are $3 for nights and $3.50 for weekends, so that helps!

Banner in AZ starts new grads at $26.24 per hour and 18% shift differential.

Specializes in Med-Surg/urology.

Med -surg nurse here! I'm in the DC metro area, started out at 27.58/hr. The differentials are awesome too. $3 for evening, $6 for nights.

Way to go AZ. What's cost of living and weather like?
