New Grad Starting Salary

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hi All,

I was just wondering what starting salary is for New Grads across the US. I am interested mostly in the Northern States (New York, New Jersey, Illinois), the Atlanta Market, TX, D.C., and California, but am curious about all areas.

Also, has anyone had any Travel Nursing experience? What is that like (i.e. pay, benefits, difficulty of the job, etc...)?

Thanks in advance.

Nice Nneokill175,

Why did you choose LTC?

Wow Uncle Rico,

I was thinking about going to DC to obtain my Bachelors. I can't believe Pensacola offers rates like that. I know some smaller areas in Alabama only start at 17.50

I was just hired as a grad nurse for a DC hospital after hundreds of applications, its a commute but i need the experience. Pensacola is basically southern Alabama so the 19/hr wasn't as shocking imo, i would think areas like Orlando, Tampa, and Miami would pay a bit more.

I know that the Tampa/Orlando area starts between 21 and 25. Although I have heard of a couple of places that start at 19.

Speaking of Florida, I'm a December 2013 grad with an ADN and I just landed my first job at a Tampa Bay hospital. It's $24.25/hr days, $29.25/hr nights for new grads.

Congrats GulfCoastRN12! If you don't mind my asking, where did you attend? Which hospital is it that you landed the job at? And is it that competitive with the Job Search that you only now found work, or did you simply take a break (which I have noticed that a lot of new grads do)?

Feel free to PM me if you'd like.

My buddy just got a job straight out of nursing school paying 41.00 an hour.

Where was that? What area?

NYC, as a bsn grad. He graduated in January, took his NCLEX 2 months ago and was hired right after.

That's awesome. I had been considering relocating to NYC. Thanks for the info.

Not a problem... My family lives there, so I am considering it as well. It's not as horribly expensive as people say. It is very expensive, but there are pockets of inexpensive areas in the city that are safe and minutes away from major hospitals.

Nice Jordinriess. What area of nursing did you enter into? What's the cost of living like in CT? Are you ADN or BSN prepared?

residency program for the ED. BSN. cost of living is up there.. not high like CA or NYC, but it varies.

That's even better to know. At $41.00 an hour, I can make it work. When do you plan on relocating? I won't be for at least a year.
