  2. I started as a new grad at a big teaching hospital in the Hartford area at 28/hr. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
  3. when I started as a new grad I got 9months on the floors (MICA/step down then a GI/remote tele floor for me) then went to the ED.. initially supposed to have 16wks, preceptor got sick and was out due to lap chole so I was on my own after about 9-10 weeks. On MICA I had a preceptor for a few months then "mentor", then on the medical/remote floor I had about 3 weeks orientation and was on my own after that. it worked out really well in my opinion. 7. Please come give this talk to the urologist that was irrigating a 3-way in my ED bare handed using an already used basin filled with sterile water (not sterile anymore) and soaking my pts bed because he let it drain all over the sheets, THEN proceeded to place a garbage bin under the collection bag and leave it wide open to drain into. 11. That's interesting to learn there is a machine for PD. I suppose in my region it's more common for people to do the ambulatory version because that's all I've ever done on my PD patients.
  12. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001431.htm
  13. Try a google search to see images of the supplies and it might make it easier for you.
  14. There's no machine, it's a bag setup with a drain bag and dialysate bag (think huge IV fluid bag) that hangs from a pole. They are connected by tubing. There is a port on the patients abdomen that is connected (sterile) to the PD infusion/transfer set. What was previously instilled in the last transfer is first drained out into the drain bag. Then that is clamped and the new dialysate is unclamped and instilled into the abdomen. That sits and dialysis occurs within the abdominal cavity for a prescribed period of time. The the process is repeated.
