Hi Everyone! im new to the site and also a new grad RN (got my license Dec 09).

I graduated from the Philippines with a BSN Degree (June 2007) and I have been applying to all the New grad programs in Ca, but have not received any calls so far.. I think that i've generated a pretty decent resume. Does anyone have any advice as far as applying to jobs? i am still clueless..

Thank yoU!

we are on the same boat graduated in the Phil. 2006 got US RN lic. sept. still waiting, and applying , just pray ,we can do it.

i have been applying for new grad programs but i guess they just have a gazillion applications to look over. San Joaquin Community Hospital Sent me a new grad pracket but i dont think i want to leave the OC Area. errr. Hopefully the economy gets better so we can both have jobs!

hi.. i just received my license here in CA.. and im a RN in the Phils too.. im looking at new grad programs as well because i dont have any local experience here.. ive submitted applications online.. i dont know if thats enough.. what have you guys been doing? where do u look for potential jobs? im just browsing the net.. should i start calling local hospitals??

I do the same thing just browsing the net. CANursingResource.com helps a lot it shows all the upcoming new grad RN programs in California. What area do you guys live at? I like around the OC/La Area... And Have applied to a couple of programs. do you guys mind if i could peek at your resumes? i feel like mine might not be comprehensive enough.. :(

same here, i just passed my nclex in ca and i'm an rn in the pi too., i'm looking for a job but it's really hard to find one with no experience., so i'm thinking of volunteering in a hospital just so i gain experience.,

what i heard if you volunteered here, you are not allowed to do the nursing stuff.

even with an rn license?., i dunno but that's the only choice i have so at least i have something (experience) and someone to put on my resume as reference while waiting for a job opportunity. and if i get lucky, they might hire me if they like my performance., god willing :)

yes as i know ,for the protection of the hospital, unlike in the PH you can volunteer and do nursing stuff and eventually became RN staff. that is what i read in some post.im still looking for a job too. have a lic. last sept and had paid exp.in the OR for a year , but thats enough.hu hu .I believe that there is a reason for everything goodluck

Yup, how they exploit new grad RN's in the Philippines doesn't happen here. You don't work for free like you do back home while the staff nurses get paid. You must have paid experience in order for it to be counted as experience. When you volunteer here, you do stuff like pass out magazines, bring pets to visit the patients, help with toy drives, basically non clinical stuff.

Right now there are so many applicants and little positions opened. My friend applied for a job at one of the county hospitals and was told that there were 3000 applicants!!!! Most of them were from out of the area of course.

It also doesn't help that some of you graduated more than a year ago. The longer time passes since you've received your BSN, the more outdated you are. You might want to try to enroll in a refresher course that's offered through some local community colleges. Then keep applying everywhere and anywhere and keep calling back to check the status of your application. Hope this helps, good luck.

hi fellow kababayans. How is it going? I'm from the Philippines too and have a hard time looking for positions in the hospital. They won't credit our experience way back there no matter how long and where u had ur experience.

I am currently working as a home health nurse with LVN rate even I'm an RN. If you guys are interested to work as an LVN for the mean time while waiting for greater opportunity you can post your resumes on Monster.com and the agencies will contact you. Eventhough we are underpaid but its far better than doing nothing.

If you're working as a RN with LVN rate then that is straight up WRONG! Now if you're working as a LVN and you took your boards as a LVN then ok that makes sense. Any other situation I would raise eyebrows. Good luck to all!
