hi,
i am going to graduate from nursing school in july. i have been offered a position in the pacu of a major hospital. i like the hours and rn-manager there a lot. any suggestions? is the pacu a good place for a new grad to start. i did not work as a nurse extern or anything. the orientation is 6 months and i get a critical care course.
any suggestions would be appreciated =)

I personally see the PACU as kind of an inappropriate place for a new grad. I would think that the PACU requires very close monitoring and a keen eye for anything going wrong post-op.
However, it sounds like your hospital is offering quite an extensive orientation, which is always good. Best of luck to you!
patien assignments are 1:1 or 1:2 at the most. the hospital is hiring 5-6 new grads for the pACU...

hello
i am a new grad in a pacu at a level1 trauma center. i was offered the positon after doing an externship there. i wouldnt discourage a new nurse from starting in the PACU, i think its a great place to learn assessment and monitoring skills. depending on what kind of hospital you are in, you will learn to care for all kinds of patients and learn about all kinds of surgical procedures. my hospital has also offered my 3week critical care course, basic dyshrhymia, and 6 month orientation.
best of luck to you! go with your gut feeling:)
