I was just curious on what the average amount of time orientation is for new grads.

How many weeks do you get?

What type of facility do you work for (Hospital, LTC, ect)?

What unit?

I get 8 weeks on a med/surg unit. After that I will go through a med/surg academy (not sure off all the details). I start on Monday!

Hello! I am a new grad who was just hired in ICU. My orientation is 7 weeks of didactic training in a classroom/simulation lab (Mon-Fri 8-5), then 7 weeks of floor training with a preceptor.

Yikes.... I'm getting 6 total. 2 weeks of it is central orientation/didactic. I am officially horrified.

Neuro med surg unit. 12 weeks plus monthly residency classes.

Someone wondered about the unpaid internship thing and many different professions have unpaid interns employed for years even! Not uncommon for most fields.

18 weeks in the OR with classroom/simulation/lab. This is a Versant program.

10 weeks IMU/Tele

My orientation was maybe 9 or 10 (7/23-10/04 I seem to recall). From what I've read on other threads, many hospitals do as little as 6 weeks for a new grad. I was barely prepared after 9 weeks and felt unsupported by the hospital I worked for. Fast forward 2 years later, I'm getting a 16 week orientation in icu at a small community hospital. Hospitals vary widely. Please be careful where you choose to work
