New grad offer, need input

I'm a new grad in Texas. Starting salary in my area is between 85,000-100,000. Primary care on the lower end while specialty in the upper range. I have family so my priority is spending quality time with my children and being able to accommodate to their schedule. I received an offer from a private practice they are willing to accommodate with my schedule to 8 AM to 3 PM Monday through Friday, no call, 25-30 pts/day, new grad orientation. Annual base salary $87,000, production bonus $5/pt over 25. However there aren't any benefits in terms of medical insurance or 401(k). Please give me your experienced opinions.

Base salary differs for area so that really depends. While I am not yet done with school, I do know that in my area (Northeast) and the facility that I plan on working for have starting figures in the 6 digits with full benefits. The lack of any benefits and retirement would completely rule out that for me. I make well more than your offer with full benefits as an RN, granted my hours arent as good. I would continue looking. 5$ production bonus for any patient over 25 sounds terrible. At a full 25 a day your basically aloted 19 minutes per patient, do you think that is viable? By this logic if you saw 4 extra patiients you would make a full 20 bucks. Would you work for 20 dollars? Dont set your bar low!

Hmmm. No 401k, no insurance benefits... What about vacation and sick time, and paid CEU time and cost, and ? Did they offer these things?

I'm sorry, but $87k with no benefits at all is not a good offer. And that productivity incentive is not good either. I would keep looking, but if your circumstances are such that you have to take it then you should definitely plan on moving on as soon as you gain a year of experience.

There's no way you will see 25+ patients/day and leave at 3pm if this is family practice/primary care. The 'productivity' bonus is a joke, as is lack of benefits. Keep looking.

no way. unless you cant get any other offers. You could at least counter. If other opportunes were available I would not take that job sounds like you will be working like a dog. 25-30 ppt per day lol nope, not worth it.

Of course if it was me and I had no choice I would take it but look for other jobs, use the orientation as a learning point, and leave after orientation once I got another job if they did not up the benefits or pay at the end of it.

25-30 patients in 7 hours is 14-17 minutes per patient without taking a break. I agree with prior posts. You will be working like a mad-person and the productivity bonus is completely ridiculous.

Well I'll chime in with a voice of reason and will probably take some heat. Family friendly hours where you get to drop the kids off at school and then leave at 3 = 35 hours per week. at $87,000 a year that comes out to almost $48.00 an hour which is right in line and perhaps a little higher than average for Texas for a new grad. Most small privately owned family practice offices (I say most, not all...I'm sure there are exceptions) are not going to offer full bennies like health insurance, dental, etc. That productivity bonus offer however is pretty laughable.

BUT...even though they may say no health insurance and no 401K, I'm thinking they have a little room to negotiate with other benefits. You should consider counter offering with a higher salary range (maybe 89-90K) and ask for PTO at least 2-3 weeks; $1500 CEU and see what they say?

For what it's worth, I worked at a small family practice office for years with no big benefits other than a wonderfully flexible part-time arrangement. And being home with my kid a few days a week and working the schedule *I* wanted to work was WAY more important to me at the time than a long list of benefits. I did not have productivity requirements and my collab physician was an amazing provider and colleague. I have colleagues who have amazing benefits but they work 40-50 hours/week for those benefits and they work for a large corporation that monitors their productivity like a hawk. I actually considered the lack of corporate heel clackers breathing down by neck and pushing me to see agazillion patients a day to be a real benefit, lol!

Make a list of what is important to you at this stage in your life. You will no doubt have to make some tradeoffs unless the perfect job just lands in your lap. If the shorter hours and a somewhat family friendly place are more important to you at this time then try to make this work. I've made different tradeoffs at different points in my life and I have never regretted it. Working til 6 pm every day of the week but with full benefits.....is little consolation when your kids are home alone fixing their own dinner.

I am not an NP but I was an LPN who assisted an MD in a family practice who had 25 patients/day. We started at 8 and left at 6 -- that was a good day.

Thanks to all for your input. It is greatly appreciated. I apologize if I misled you but just to clarify the 25-30 pt/ day is for the 8-5 schedule .They do offer CEU reimbursement of $1000 per year and along with 10 days paid vacation per year.
