New grad - NICU interview help

Published

Hi there! I'm a new grad and obtained my license Nov 2014. I'm new to this page as well. My dream is to become a NICU nurse and I have the opportunity to interview on Tuesday. I have not had an interview in a while and I need some help. Does anyone have advise as to what questions to focus on? I'll be meeting with a hiring manager, charge nurse, and nurse educator. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Stephanie

I don't feel it's normal to get hired on the spot, so don't let that get you down! It took much longer than that for me to get my NICU offer BUT it was completely worth the wait! I am so excited to have started yesterday and I can't wait to get on the floor and start learning!

Good luck and keep us posted!! :)

Congrats! I'm so excited for you!

Congratulations! I had an interview today as well and felt pretty good leaving it. The hiring managers were extremely patient and kind even though I was very nervous. I felt like they appreciated my efforts to remain calm and professional. (Even though my shaky hand betrayed me and showed my nerves) Anyway, I got A LOT of situation and behavioral questions. Which I like because I get a chance to speak about past experience. Down side, I'm a new nurse so most of my "experience" comes from clinical or my jobs as a tech. Overall, I felt it went pretty well.

I've noticed there are a lot more interview posts on here, so maybe that's a sign that the market is on the upswing for us newbies. I sure hope so, because I really want to get my career started. Hopefully, I will get the job I interviewed for today which is my DREAM JOB, and like you is in the NICU, Level 3! Fingers crossed!!!

Good luck to you, keep us posted.

OP did you get the job?

The nurse manager told me that it'll be a few weeks until the recruiter will contact the nurse who's selected. The position begins sometime in February. I sent a thank you email to the nurse manager last week but haven't gotten a reply yet. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed.
