Hi there! I'm a new grad and obtained my license Nov 2014. I'm new to this page as well. My dream is to become a NICU nurse and I have the opportunity to interview on Tuesday. I have not had an interview in a while and I need some help. Does anyone have advise as to what questions to focus on? I'll be meeting with a hiring manager, charge nurse, and nurse educator. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Stephanie

I think it would depend on what state you are in, and also the organization. The one I applied to listed on their website the type of interview they used and that was "behavioral interview".
I have not been lucky enough to even get a phone call, but I have been studying the interview process if that phone ever rings!!
oh ok that makes sense. thank you! and good luck!

I had a NICU interview in November and accepted the position in December!
A lot of the questions I was asked were behavioral questions. I was also asked where I see myself in 1 year, 5 years, and 10 years. I was asked my goals as an RN, and why I was interested in working in the NICU. Really take the time to identify your strengths and weaknesses. I was asked about my clinical experiences as well, my favorites and my least favorites.
I hope this helps! :)
I forgot to say congratulations on your interview! And good luck!!
That's awesome! Congrats! Thanks for the info!

Well congrats for starters! & Just be yourself. Some questions they asked me were, why nicu, & give an example of your prioritizing skills. I can't remember many as I was so nervous lol but I used a lot of my examples for my precepting rotation in L&D for examples.

Hi congrats on your interview!!!
I interviewed in Dec for NICU and was hired on the spot. Some questions I was asked were:
-how would you respond if a baby was having apnea, bradycardia, or a desat?
- how would you handle workplace gossip?
- give examples of a situation where you demonstrated leadership
- what experience do have with family centred care?
- give an example of how you would handle an upset parent/family member
- why NICU?
- what are some skills associated with effective communication?
Good luck!!
Thank you so much for the help! and congrats! I can only imaging that you felt amazing after being hired. :) What state do you work in? if you don't mind me asking.
Good luck on your interview tomorrow!! :)

I know I'm a little late to the party, but congrats on the interview! Let us know how it goes and what you were asked!
Well I definitely was not hired on the spot. The nurse manager and educator that I met with were extremely nice and easy to talk to. I was a nervous nelly, I definitely stuttered a few times. And now I have butterflies as a wait.
Here are some questions to prepare for:
strengths and weaknesses?
What does familu centered care care mean to you?
Why NICU?
how do you invision working in a NICU would be like?
How would you handle an upset parent, patient, dr?
How would you handle death?
Then there was a priority question.
they said the recruiter would contact me and they're looking for the position to start in Feb. I'll be anxious for the next few days to say the least.
Thank you for all your help!
