New Grad, New City : No Diversity

Published

Ok, I currently live on the east coast and a lot of new grads are having problems with finding a jobs. I've come to realize that I have to be willing to move out of state to get a job. The issue is, I really had my heart set on NYC at first, but now I've realized that I have a pretty slim chance of getting a job there. My only issue with moving is after 10 years of living in the suburbs, I can't see myself moving back to another suburb or city where there is NO diversity! I'm looking all over the country and I'm finding a lot of hospitals that are willing to hire new grads, but I worry about the lack of diversity. I guess my question is, should I even care about diversity? Also, I'm in my early twenties. I don't want to live in a city catered just to families. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

i'm not quite sure what sort of diversity you're looking for . . . seattle is a great place if you're looking for diversity in the form of asian cultures but not so much if you're looking for african americans. baltimore has a lot of african americans, but caucasians are underrepresented. if it's different lifestyles you're looking for, perhaps california? i'm not sure what you're hoping for.

I moved from Wisconsin to Atlanta. Culture shock, and every kind of diversity you can imagine. Bustling night-life and a decent job market. Though I hear Texas has the best cost of living, but it has been a couple of years since I looked at those numbers.

What about Miami, beautiful beaches lots of sunshine and ohhh the infamous SOUTH BEACH :) You can can work and play all at the same time.

Lots and LOTS of diversity here, dont worry you wont feel short changed.
