Hey Everyone,
I am graduating in May 08 from a college in Massachussetts and am moving to Raleigh NC. I have spoke with a nurse manager at Wake Med but never heard back from HR. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to get into Wake med! Any suggestions?
I also have an interview in March over at Duk e's GEMS program and have been getting mixed reviews.
Does Wake Med hire new grads after all the fellowship positions have been filled?
How can I get my foot in the door over there?
I am willing to work ANY SHIFT ANY UNIT!
Any and all info will help!=)
Thanks,
G :typing

I would say call WakeMed Human Resources and speak to a Nurse Recruiter. I am a VA resident, graduating in August, and called WakeMed on Friday w/ a similar question. WakeMed explained to me that they have hired most of their May new grads for their nurse residencies that begins this summer (July I believe), but if there are postings on the website, those new grad opportunities have not been filled yet. Apparently their new grad RN residencies are set up for May & Dec grads, however, they stated that they have began new nurses in between if the new grad had their RN. Hope this helps. :)

Definitely calll! I don't know anyone who has been hired without needing to make a follow up call or visit.
WakeMed absolutely hires new grads - and it is a great place to work!

I put in an application for 2 new grad positions at Wake Med on January 4th and I *still* haven't heard anything from them regarding an interview or whether I'm even being considered for the jobs. I've been corresponding with the nurse recruiter and she said they are very busy at the moment and still reviewing applications, but I don't know exactly where that leaves me.
In the meantime I've been offered a position at Rex, which I'm thinking of taking. I really had my heart set on working at a trauma center though and I thought Wake Med would be perfect.
Hopefully they get back to you faster than they have been with me!
P.S. I'm moving to Raleigh this summer too!

I live in Indiana and interviewed at both Duke and WakeMed with a fellow nursing student. We were excited about both the GEMS program and the Nurse Fellows program and were able to tour both. I will say that with WakeMed, you have to follow-up with them. They are busy! I sent in my application the first week of Jan and called them to let them know I was traveling to the area and interested in interviewing. I asked the Nurse Recruiter to please let the managers know that I would be coming through so they could attempt to schedule an interview, if interested. I dealt with three different Nurse Recruiters (all very friendly) and was able to score an interview one day before I left to go to NC!
Again, I encourage you to follow-up with them and let them know you are willing to answer any questions the managers may have concerning your resume and qualifications. Good luck!!!!
