New Grad Job Hunting

Published

Hello I am a new graduate that is licensed in both Oregon and Louisiana. I have been searching for jobs here in Oregon because I prefer to be close to family but it seems impossible as a new grad. I have created profiles on headhunter job sites like monster.com but I have read that it can sometimes be scam.

I am also really looking for a job at a hospital with a loan repayment program and I am willing to relocate to anywhere in the U.S.

I would appreciate any suggestions from anyone!

Thank you!

What kinds of jobs are you applying for? Are you only looking at hospital positions or only in a certain specialty? You may need to broaden your job opportunities and look into other types of work locations such as ambulatory care, LTC, etc. You can also join local nursing organizations for networking opportunities- sometimes it's more who you know than what you know.

How long ago did you graduate? Do you have a BSN? Hospitals only hire BSNs in my part of the country. I graduated more than 6 months ago and I'd say about half of my cohort have found jobs. Finding that first job is HARD but you can do it.

The last time I looked, those loan forgiveness programs don't kick in until after you have made 10 years of payments.

Are you only applying to acute care jobs? If you have no experience, you might want to take a non-acute care position now, even a PCA, while you keep applying for the acute care positions. Any experience will be better than none and will improve your chances in the future.

Call an Armed Forces recruiter. Great training, experience, and pay.

But they only take a BSN or higher
