new grad hiring freeze

Published

:banghead:Hello, any one know of new grad positions in Denver right now? I will do whatever it takes, but it is so difficult to find anyone that is willing to train. I will sweep floors and work as a CNA if I have to. I am unable to move because I can't take the kids out of Denver and I would never leave them. I have a BSN and passed the boards at the end of April. I will take any suggestion. Are other new grads having dificulties?:banghead:

seriously! that is soooo frustrated to see " experienced nurse only" "+1 yr experience needed" "not accept new grads this time" "new grads apply new grads position only" (but doesn't open any new grads position at all) that suck!

all I want to say..yeah..that is nurse shortage...for experienced nurse only

Hello everyone and thank you to those who relied to my thread. I wasn't intneding to say that there was a literal hiring freeze, at all the facilities, or trying to discourage all the other new grads out there. I have had some interviews but I have been turned away in favor of other nurses with more experience. It is hard to get a recruiter on the phone. If I was able to move away I would move to a smaller town, but I cannot take my children out of the Denver area because their father lives here. I wish everyone the best of luck. Denver Health has posted a notice on their website that they are declining new grads. Children's Hospital and University Hospital told me that they will not currently hire from Denver School of Nursing until the Program is nationally accredited. Rose Medical center said they only hired three new grads this year when they usually hire 30. So it is probably a good idea to be creativeif you have already graduated, and if you are in school trl to work as a CNA or a Nurse Intern.:nurse:

I guess my spell chek wasn't working sorry about the typos

Hello again, I will try to keep my typos to a minium. What if we got together and approached the board of nursing with a proposal for a bridge program. California now has one. It gives new grads a chance to get the needed experience and secure a job and takes the expense off of the hopsitals. I do not know how it is funded or what is required. It might be worth a shot and it would be a positive step towards helping Colorado new grads. Please reply with your thoughts. Thanks

In my personal opinion (and a fellow DSoN grad), there needs to be some letter writing going on. It is clear from many politicians' speeches they don't have a clue (usually in general) about what is going on in health care. Even the congressmen and senators that used to be doctors and nurses are spending more time arguing topics that get them votes (abortion, medicare) than actually solving problems. Heck, many of us have little else going on and plenty of free time!

They think there is a crisis going on, but they really have no idea about how deep. Sure, many nurses are staying past retirement and/or burnout because of the economy, but with nobody hiring the new grads, who is going to fill positions when the market rebounds? The patients will suffer if the hospitals just start suddenly hiring the thousands of new grads building up during this period to fill experienced positions. Say this trend only lasts a year: How many new grads will have built up in that time? Worse, how many new grads will have become frustrated with the :banghead: search and moved on to different careers?

My father suggested I pick up a LSAT review schedule and make a go as a lawyer! Yes, that would be against my love of nursing and would be futile since the economy would be different in the years it takes to get a law degree, but every day my inbox is filled with rejection letters from facilities and recruiters, it looks better.

to address the previous comment of, "Children's Hospital and University Hospital told me that they will not currently hire from Denver School of Nursing until the Program is nationally accredited."

I personally know someone who graduated in 12/08 from DSN with a BSN and is currently working at Children's Hospital; though I know University is a different story.

Thank You. There were some people who were grandfathered in. I was told in person by the nurse recruiter who was very nice, but she said the BSN program has to be accredited thru one of two organizations. She told me this in July of 2009.

DSON is a joke, i wouldnt hire a nurse from there either...Back to the topic, yes there is a hiring freeze, colorado is a horrible place for new grads right now, and even experienced nurses, everyone wants to live here.

I wonder how over 10 new grads just started St Joe's new grad program?

Hello, I thank you for your opinion, but could you tell me why, and others what has caused you to form this opinion and what it is based on?

Hello, I was polite when maybe something more apporpriate was called for. I talked to the recruiter , I knoew how many positopns were filled. You are mistaken.

If you are referring to my statement regarding St Joe's, I cant speak about what you were told by the recruiter; but I know how many new nurses were actually were in the orientation.
