I have to disagree. I have two friends who are employed, dad is a truck driver the mom is a hair dresser. They have two girls three and six. There six year old daughter ahs charge syndrome. They have insurance. It is not enough. The little girl is on her 4th pacemaker, has one kidney, she is profoundly deaf and legally blind. She has autistic behaviors. They love their daughters as much as anyone can. They are getting a divorce so that mom can get public aide. They will never crawl out from under the debt they have already. I think you need to walk in someone's shoes before you make generaliztions.

I just talked to a recruiter for the federal bureau of prisons. There are some openings in Florence Colorado for anyone who is interested. She said that the training program is excellent if you are able to relocate. She also said there are openings in the Department of Health and Human services for work on the Indian reservations. She said the benefits are similar to being in the service, but the hiring age limit is 44. Look up USA Jobs and Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Hello again, I would not slam anyone's school. I think Regis, and CU are excellent programs and I know that the students work very hard. I gaduated from DSON, passed the NCLEX in one hour and fifteen minutes so I must have been prepared well by the school. We are all nurses and we are supposed to care about and respect one another. I have a lot of respect for my classmates that went to DSON they are bright hardworking people who care about the patients. DSON is no joke. We are also taught to care about our fellow staff members. I don't think slamming another school helps anyone.

Hello, My reply was mainly to "the prestige" who called DSN a joke. If there were 10 at orientation then there were 10. The conversation with the recruiter was more about the number of applicants compared to the number of positions. I have begun speaking to recruiters who said there were as many as 140 applicants for each positions at some hospitals which is not common. And not just the popular positions like Labor and Delivery. The point of the thread is merely to find out what is going on and how the new grads are doing in Denver.

I spoke personally to the nurser recruiter at St Joes. They happen to like DSON grads.

Hello, I am so sorry to hear that you have had difficulties at your clinicals. I would have someone call your references that you know so you can make sure they are actually giving you a good reference. When I was working on my clinicals I saw experienced nurses cry. It did not make them a bad nurse. It is a high stress profession some times. Especially when you care about your work. I have a BSN and have been having the same difficult time. I have applied to over 96 positions and am not having any luck. I would be extremely flexible as a lot of new grads are having problems now. I know lots of agencies are hiring for the flu clinics you might give them a call> It would give you 4 or 5 months of work and a refernce. I have kids and a mortgage too so I know how scary it can be. I hope everything works out for you.

Thank You. There were some people who were grandfathered in. I was told in person by the nurse recruiter who was very nice, but she said the BSN program has to be accredited thru one of two organizations. She told me this in July of 2009.

Hello again, I will try to keep my typos to a minium. What if we got together and approached the board of nursing with a proposal for a bridge program. California now has one. It gives new grads a chance to get the needed experience and secure a job and takes the expense off of the hopsitals. I do not know how it is funded or what is required. It might be worth a shot and it would be a positive step towards helping Colorado new grads. Please reply with your thoughts. Thanks

Hello everyone and thank you to those who relied to my thread. I wasn't intneding to say that there was a literal hiring freeze, at all the facilities, or trying to discourage all the other new grads out there. I have had some interviews but I have been turned away in favor of other nurses with more experience. It is hard to get a recruiter on the phone. If I was able to move away I would move to a smaller town, but I cannot take my children out of the Denver area because their father lives here. I wish everyone the best of luck. Denver Health has posted a notice on their website that they are declining new grads. Children's Hospital and University Hospital told me that they will not currently hire from Denver School of Nursing until the Program is nationally accredited. Rose Medical center said they only hired three new grads this year when they usually hire 30. So it is probably a good idea to be creativeif you have already graduated, and if you are in school trl to work as a CNA or a Nurse Intern.
