New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

World Registration

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

I'm on the same boat, well I have found some hospital to train. Hopefully they will take me in immediately :cross-finger:[so as to fill my 3 months exp]

@Angelslove congrats on your LOE cheers, a new chapter awaits

@ stacey, is it really ok if we don't have exp.? TIA

and to all whose waiting, keep your chin up. patience is really a virtue, it shall come in due time ^^ good day

hi*xxxl.. i think it is ok because my batchmates were newly grad that time and they actually made it in aus without any xp in hand. but to remind you, it was in 2007. my friend's cousin took a conversion program in 2010 and he's a fresh grad too. it has been some time now so probably there has been changes with the process too. like what ive read here, the ahpra requires atleast 3months experience. for those who have just graduated they are exempted until 2/5years post grad. one of the problems that we are to expect after finishing the course though is that would there be a hospital ready to accept non experienced nurses like us?

mentioning of this matter, does anyone know if the hospitals are looking at the work experience as a staff nurse or is volunteer experience ok to get a job?

hi guys! do you happen to know where i could see the schools accredited by AHPRA and their validity? thanks in advance! :)

Actually, you are considered a new graduate until 1 year from end of nurse education and then you need to have 3 months nursing experience.

After this time you must also show that you have done cPD of at least 20 hours every year from your first year, to show you are a professional nurse and have kept uptodate. This is mandatory for every RN in Australia and is expected of other overseas nurses as well.

If you have no nursing experience, what are you offering an Australian employer? over other applicants. Nurses with no experience have also been known to struggle with the bridging courses and clinicial experience.

hello! if i may ask, what specific visa stamping do we need to have in our passport? isn't it the embassy gets to place the visa already on the passport pages? :) thanks!

Most of the times the Australian Department of Immigration will issue you a visa by just sending you a letter notifying you of the grant. It will be up to the visa holder to have their passport stamped in the nearest embassy to reflect the visa in one of the passport pages.

hi ceridwyn! thanks for the info.

i actually graduated in 2007. i passed my licensure exam in 2009 so i have no clinical experience after 1 year i graduated. however, i have 19months

volunteer experience. do you think this is helpful to me in getting employed in Australia after the BP? thanks:)

Hi aila, did you apply thru philman?

do you guys know the appropriate visa for Mercy Health? Is it student or business class? thanks in advance!

I think Mercy isn't CRICOS registered, so you can't apply for a student visa :)

hello, guys!

would just like to know where to avail of a personal medical insurance for the duration of the BP and and much would it cost?

Thx in advance! :)
