Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Hey dreammeanswork.
I'm actually in the same situation as you are. I graduated last year, took the boards last December and results came out just this February 2012. So I basically have no experience at all. Well I do, but just voluntary work. Hahaha. I'm taking the IELTS this Saturday and hopefully I do pass it.
I suggest you take the IELTS first. From there on your options would sorta widen. In my case, after I take and get a score of at least 7 in all bands, i'm going back to IDP Manila and inquire what options I have. Well there are only two: to take the bridging program (IRON) or the conversion program. If any school in Australia, preferably in Melbourne or Sydney since some of my friends are already there, would offer an intake for the conversion program this August or September i'd prolly take it. But if there are no more slots available for the conversion program this year then i'd push through with my application for the bridging (IRON) program. But that's just me. Hahaha.
Hmmm to iron out your confusion, AHPRA is the registering body in australia..If you wish to work in australia as a nurse, you need to register to them.. You need to submit all the requirements they need..
After lodging your application, you will be notified
that they got your application, about your case manager etc.. Your case manager will then inform you or ask you about other documents that you need to send..
All documents will be assessed..
After which, you just need to wait..
We will all then wait for the LOE stating that we need to finish a BP course before registering,, or for some, they don't need to undergo BP.
Schools who offer BP require the LOE from AHPRA before we can enrol to their BP course.
BP is the bridging program, which usually lasts about 2-3 months.. They say bp will orient us about australia health care system and etc.
After successfully completing BP, the result, if im not mistaken will be submitted to AHPRA and by then if you were successful, you can apply for registration to AHPRA. Then you will be RN Division 1..
Try to check their website.. Everything you need to know is there :)

Hi Cummulus, I've been here for more than 9 yrs now. While waiting for my LOE, I submitted my cv to WA Dept. of Health last March 2012 fortunately I got a reply last week scheduling me to discuss my interest in working in WA this coming friday just in time I got my LOE. Hopefully something good will come out from this discussion. Thank you.
