Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
For Nurses in New Zealand:
What kind of certificate of employment are you required to submit?
Is it an original one? or can it be just a notarized copy?
Also, does it have to state the actual number of hours spent working?
or can you just say the total number of hours per week? (e.g. 40 hours a week)
is it different from bridging and conversion???
GNP is for Aussies and pr only. They also accept overseas nurse with aus license if there are excess slots for as long as the overseas nurse has only worked less than 6 mos. But the GNP slots are not even enough for fresh graduate locals. Before, intl nurses are accepted in this program and are given an aus license upon graduating. Those were the times when aus was in desperate need of nurses. But now the only way to get license is through bp, conversion, undergraduate nrsg and post graduate nrsg which are all expensive.
"diac delays release of new skilled occupation list monday, 3 may 2010the department of immigration and citizenship (diac) australia have delayed the release of the new skilled occupation list (sol), scheduled for release on 30, april 2010.

i just found that on the net... hmmm... i wonder if nsg will still be on the list...
this is the one causing great stress to many of the people here. if your skill is not on the list, you have 0 chance of becoming a pr. with the nrsg situation in aus at present, all we can do is wait if nrsg is still considered a needed skill. but i have high hopes that nrsg is still perfect 60 bec the rural areas are crying out loud for nurses. the prob is that everyone wants to work in the city for obvious reasons. i myself don't want to work in the rural. we've already experienced living in the outback at the north and i definitely don't want to go back there again. jeez.
why? wat was wrong with the rural areas?
It's thousands of kilometers away from civilization. In wa rural areas are called outbacks and bushlands. There's nothing to see but red desert and bush. You'll have plenty of savings bec there's nothing to spend your money on. There are no malls and if ever there is, it's so small. You needed to travel far far away just to do your grocery. Make sure you know how to cook if you decided to go for rural or else you'll go hungry coz there are no fastfoods and restos. Your life will be work sleep work sleep work sleep. And you'll definitely need a car bec there aren't any public transport. Oh, and commodities there are also freaking expensive especially the accomodation. If all your life you've been to the city I doubt if you can last a week there. Nurses there are also overworked. You're lucky if there's another nurse as a coworker in the health center. You should be Jack of all trades. You're extremely lucky if there's a doctor assigned in the health center. That's why in the natl reg, rural nurses can prescribe medicine. Good luck. I hope you don't lose your sanity.
yup, i read all about that. Rural nurses have more autonomy and should be resourceful. And the duty is like 24/7. everyone will come to you because doctors are miles away. But correct me if I'm wrong, they're requiring competent nurses (RN's with 2-3 years clinical experience) for rural areas because of the heavier responsibilities.

wow. that's scary! and i thought most of australia was pretty much developed! another lesson learned! thanks!
There's a rural area in aus where the population is only 17 and it's officially a town. If you're assigned as a rural nurse there you'll definitely form a strong bond with your 17 patients bec you'll be with them in good times and bad times, in sickness and in health. And you'll all do your groceries together which is located so far away to save on gas which is very expensive in the rural. I can't imagine how a town like this can exist in nowhere. Omg.
Rural nurses earn more than city nurses bec they have rural incentive (bonus)

A fresh graduate will definitely "die" in the rural especially if he/she has never been or has never seen the rural.
Most of Australia is undeveloped. The only developed ones are the major cities and the semirural cities where the people are concentrated. And the rest is vast emptiness of rural areas scattered all over like sprinkled salt on your dining table. The only thing connecting them to civilization is the roads.
oh my... sounds like you had a pretty bad experience in the outback. my friends in victoria say its pretty laid back there, but its not anything like your description, i hope i don't get a job in that kind of place.
Well there was nothing to do but work work work. It was totally boring in there! There are no parks. There's nothing to see. If you wanna go to the beach you needed to travel far far away. And it's terribly hot there too. At least there's a small mall for grocery. People in the rural are workaholics bec there's nothing to do but work. If you worked for 30 yrs in the rural well I'm sorry but you just wasted your only life. In victoria and nsw instead of red desert it's forests. In Adelaide it's fields same with qld.
Did you know that Perth is dark at night? Quezon city is brighter. Even Manila is brighter. And at 7:00pm the people are already at home. Shops here close at 6pm and are closed on Sunday. Perth is a ghost town on Sunday. SM MOA is also bigger than the biggest mall in wa. And there are only 2 skyscrapers here. That's Perth the most isolated city in the world run by bad politicians. People are demanding for extended retail hours. If you run out of cooking oil on Sat night good luck.
