New Grad Dilemma

Ok. First off, let me say that I reside in NYC. I'm fed up with this extremely difficult job hunting process. Hospitals here are just not hiring new grads (got my license in October of 09). I understand that it's still early, but I really don't want to imagine myself still looking for a job 4 months from now =(. Does anyone know any NYC hospitals that are MOST LIKELY to hire new grads?

Apply in person. It's nationwide.

If you can move, go to a rural place.

Calm down, it's only been a month, or less, for you. Many out here have been looking for over a year. And rural is not necessarily hiring any either. Try looking in VA hospitals, and slowly searching each area by hospital to see what they have. Be ready to stick with it may take a while, but then again, perhaps not.

I hear you!! Me too! I got my license (LPN) in Oct. also, and all Im getting is Im not qualified. Are they kidding!! Why did I go to school all this time!! Its very frustrating. :angryfire I live in Cleveland Oh, and I know the economy is bad and all but this is rediculous. No matter what you have, they up the annie. Now they want med ceftifications. I cant even get an STNA job here because they dont allow PN's to work them after licensing. I feel like I should have just done STNA, at least id have a job.

what is your title? rn or lpn?? yes, it makes a difference esp your location. new grads are difficult b/c of the amount of time training can be costly. remember, we are in economic crisis. and it can also depend on what type of job you are looking for, b/c some specialties won't hire new grads. some grads do take employment where they had clinicals, have you consider checking there first? at times the hardest job can be your first. hang in there, and keep looking.

i am a rn. i think i am going to start applying in person like a poster suggested. maybe it can increase my chances of getting hired. it's just sad that we have to go through all of this just to practice what we have a degree in.

Not really. It's the same for most occupations. We've just been spoiled in the past with "Walk in with your license and get hired."
