New GRAD Asking someone to Help Me Help Myself

Published

Before I begin I will like to thank those that took the time to read this post. I have applied to numerous places in new york city and have NOT been unsuccessful in obtaining a job. I have started this job search since August. Thus far I have applied to Lutheran hospital, Methodist hospital, Mount Sinai, New york downtown, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Interfailth Medical Center, Coney island hospital (and a general HHC application), St Anns Elizabeth Rehab, Bellevue, Staten Island University Hospital, Richmond Medical Center, Silver lake nursing home, Verrazano nursing home, NYU Hospital of Joint Disease, Hospital of Special Surgery, Lenox Hill Hospital, North General Hospital, Harlem Hospital, Calvary Hospital, NYP, Bronx Lebanon, Montifore, St Barnabas, & Brooklyn Hospital are some of the MANY places I have applied to. At this point I am so frustrated. It would be lovely if someone could HELP ME HELP MYSELF.

For those I have confused I meant to say that I have been unsuccessful in obtaining a job

Let us know some more about you so we can help you better.

I'm assuming you are a new grad? Where did you go to school? Did you get an Associates or a BSN? Any other degrees (in other fields)? Any previous healthcare or work experience in general? I asume you passed the NCLEX? Have you done any externships? Did you get any certifications to boost your resume? (i.e. IV cert) Is your BLS up-to-date?

From what I hear, its TOUGH out there for new grads. Maybe your resume needs a face lift???

Write back so we can try to help you! GL to YOU!!

I graduated back in 2006 from SUNY Plattsburgh with my BSN. Worked @ LIJ for three months with a use of a permit. Failed boards the first time around. Ended up pregnant with my my now 6 mon old son. My BLS is up to date. I am in dying need of a job since I got pregnant truthfully it seems like nothing good came out of my situation, and to think people say having a baby is a blessing. I have been on public assistance because I have mimimal help. Now I just want to get back on track and I am so discouraged. Thanks again for trying to help me.Hopefully the infomation I gave you was enough to advise me further.

So sorry this is so difficult for you. Perhaps its the lag between graduation and working as a nurse that has recruiters questioning you. I'm no expert but two suggestions -

1) attend a job fair. that way you are getting face-to-face with the hiring folks and....

2) in the meantime, have you considered "non-traditional" routes to get some experience? i.e. seems like all the new grads run to the big hospitals in NYC....why not try some of the smaller hospitals in queens, brooklyn, bronx, etc. Try nursing homes, too.

Sorry I cannot be of more help to you. Very best of luck to you and keep us posted.

P.S. you little one IS a blessing!

You said you failed boards 1st time have you resat?

How about trying an MD office, private duty, rehab, OMRDD agency

Don't just look for full-time apply for part-time positions also

1) part-time opens doors which leads to full-time.

2) or work all shifts that are offered to make 40 hours.

3) are you looking for just days you may need to give into the off shifts to start, again gets your foot in a door.

Children are a blessing in disguise

God Bless & Good Luck

Sounds like you need to retake and pass the NCLEX first.
