New to the Forum Applying at MCC and Baker

If you studied the Hesi study guide you should be all set to ace the test this week :)! It was a lot easier than I expected when I took it last January. I start the nursing program at Macomb in January . I think the competition to get in is getting tougher, there were 828 applicants last year.

I am a new member and looking for advise. I graduated last May from MCC medical assistant program. I am currently taking classes at Baker and applying to the nursing program in the spring. I am taking the Hesi test at Mcc on Friday and was wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect. My first choice for a nursing program is MCC but I will be grateful to get in anywhere.

I am starting the MCC program in March of '08. It was not too bad gitting in the program. The test and your last 12 Credit is what counts. I think since i got in march, i was the border line. 92.33% on the test and 4.0 on the last 12 credits.

I am not sure of backer. The only school i applied to is MCC even i live in Oakland County as I know OCC is much harder to get in to.

I think the competition was pretty stiff last year, actually! I got a 94.85 on the Hesi and had a 4.0 and ranked 24th out of 828 applicants. I am starting in January because I requested that start time I wanted to get micro out of the way before I began the program. I guess I could have started in August based on my ranking? I'm glad I didn't, micro is enough stress right now .

All the nursing programs are very hard to get into. Competition for example in Michigan is extremely stiff. I would recommend staying with a community college; financially alot more affordable, transferring credits will be a lot easier, as you know Baker is on quarter hours, where community colleges/universities are on full semesters (other schools do not recognize certain basic classes from Baker and you will have to retake them) U of M Flint does not recognize Baker's Eng 102, you will have to retake it for a Bachelor program as an example.

your thinking is backwards.. by your numbers , you have a better chance to get into mcc if you average your applicant estimate at baker to 470.
